Playing at a $300 cap 1/2 home game, harder than a normal 1/2 table but still soft.
Hero: youngest person by ~10 years, easily the most aggressive person at the table. I personally think I’ve been playing loose but I probably have the lowest VPIP.
V ($220 effective): Seems somewhat better than the average player here, still limps but bought in for the max and I’ve seen him fold TP once to some aggressiveness (actually kind of a tight fold). He’s ~30 and black of that helps
Table seems pretty fit/fold, not a ton of bluffs.
OTTH
Hero raises UTG (6-handed) to $10 with JhTh, V in MP calls, BTN calls, BB calls.
Flop: QdKc4d Pot = $41
BB check, Hero bet $18, V calls, everyone else folds
Turn: 8h Pot = $77
Hero bet $35, V tank-calls
River: 8s Pot = $147 (rake is $5 so it’s $142)
Hero bets $76. ???
Analysis:
Preflop seems standard to me, I know some people like to go bigger pre but ehh
Flop is interesting. I don’t like bluffing 4-ways but this is one of the few bluffs I’ll have from a UTG open besides AJdd, T9dd, etc. I like the smaller sizing because I can rep a lot of value and they tend to be pretty inelastic towards c-bet sizings.
Turn might be a check, still not sure. I like double-barreling because it folds hands like Qx and diamond floats, but that’s not too many combos. Definitely calling with a K and probably flush draws. Still iffy about it
River I think is the big decision. On the turn I was pretty sure I was check/giving up on most rivers. Especially so after the board pairs, feel like people call too much. But I started thinking about what kind of bluffs I triple barrel, and I couldn’t come up with any natural bluffs except JTs. I’m 100% giving up with AJdd and other flush draws, and that’s only a few combos. I don’t like bluffing in live 1/2, but should I only be value-betting here?
I still don’t know about this hand, advice is appreciated. I’ll post results in a while

When you really look at balancing your range, you need to look at a lot of things – pre-flop raising both strong and light, pre-flop flatting both strong and light, 3-betting and 4-betting light and for value, the types of hands you check-raise with, etc. It’s more than just how often you’re bluffing. And at a 1-2 game, players just aren’t thinking on that level so there’s no need to worry about balancing your range.
At this game, you are the youngest and the most aggressive – whether you’ve shown bluffs or not people think you’re bluffing.
The flop play is fine, but you have to be careful. While this hits a pre-flop raisers range, it also hits the callers range. There’s a good chance someone has a K or a Q and will get sticky. It’s also draw heavy and you will get people chasing the straight and/or flush here.
On the turn, you have to ask yourself what the villain has here to continue on the flop. How often is he drawing and how often is does he have at least one pair? Since that 8 changes nothing, I wouldn’t continue unless you think he has at best second pair.
On the river, it is an interesting spot. I would vote to give up except for one thing – you said he tank called the turn. How reliable is that tanking as a sign of weakness? Does he normally play quick or does he often take some time for calls. If you don’t think this is some sort of Hollywood or him slow-playing a strong hand, this should mean he’s drawing or has a weak pair. If you think he’s weak/drawing, you should definitely bluff again. All of the draws missed and you are representing top pair or better. Should be able to get a lot of hands to fold with a 3/4 pot-sized bet.
