Hi guys. So its been a couple of weeks off the felt. I’ve been working on my game off the table and studying the game, hoping to transform my game and to stop making mistakes. Tonights session was the first night back and I was eager to get some hands in.

However, I had an absolutely terrible session. I don’t know what to call it. Something kicked my ass tonight, and I’m not even sure it’s variance or bad luck. Just feels awful to have a big losing session after all that work. This session was unreal. I’ll post the hands I was involved in. Please let me know your thoughts, because I’m just simply at a lost for words.

    Hero stack: 360
    Hero hand: AQs
    Hero position: Utg2

    Villain stack: 800
    villain hand: A3c
    Villain position: MP

    Preflop:
utg raises to 12 (shortstacked ~100), hero 3bets to 24, villain calls, folds to utg, utg calls

    Flop: Ad 3d Ah
utg check, hero bets 50, villain calls, utg folds

    Turn: Jd
hero bets 90, villain raise to 180, hero all-in, villain snap calls

    River: 5s

I know the 3bet sizing was a little small. My only reason to 3bet that small was to actually keep the utg player in. UTG kept buying short and was on his 4th buyin. He was clearly tilted and was raising 100% preflop with a very high VPIP, but would fold to large 3bets. He sat directly to my right. I didn’t want to blow him off his weak range.

Villain calls, and he had a high VPIP as well. He was showing up 2-3 gap connectors (unsuited) and was hitting them. He was in a lot of pots as well, playing his “rush” and it was working for him. He played his flush and straights very fast and reriase 3 – 4x a bet. This was used in my decision. During the hand, when he called my reraise, I really thought he had an Ace or pocket pair.

On the flop. I know I had utg crushed. The board is pretty wet and I did not want to slow play it. I bet 50 for value, targeting under pairs, flush draws, straight draws, and ace-rag.

In game, I thought the turn card was not that bad of a card. Because, I think the J would’ve fit my range than villains at the time. I thought to myself, if he does have a flush, he would be calling. To my surprise, villain min-raised me.

When the raise came, two thoughts came to me: 1) this is not a 33 hand, 2) this is likely not a flush either, I’ve seen him raise larger with flushes, relative to the initial bet. I was convinced he had an ace in his hand. I quickly counted the Ax hands that beat me: 4 combos of AK, and 3 combos of A3. Lots of Ax hands that I beat.

I realize 33 could be in his range, but a min-bet to me did not scream too much strength. I click it back and when he snap-called, I really thought I had won, until he turned over his hand.

    Rebuy
