Hi guys. My girlfriend knows I’ve been posting my hands here and likes the feedback I’ve been getting. She would like to hear your thoughts on a hand she was involved with last night.

She has been playing poker a lot longer than I have. Starting from limit, then moving on to no-limit. She started playing this stake seriously at the beginning of the year. I suggested she start with a BR with stop-lost rules and that she studies the game at least an hour a day. She did amazing and reached her BR challenge in 4 months. She has set another BR challenge for herself and is trending to complete it as well.

I had moved to her table at this point and observed this hand in question.

    Hero (Girlfriend) stack: 1200
    Hero (Girlfriend) hand: Kh Kc
    Hero (Girlfriend) position: Cut

    Villain stack: 400
    Villain Hand: ???
    Villain position: BTN

    Preflop:
EP limp, Hero raise to 15, Villain 3-bets to 50, blinds and limper folds, hero calls

    Flop: Jd 8h 4d
Hero checks, villain bets 100, hero calls

    Turn: 5c
    Hero checks, villain checks

    River: 2s
    Hero checks, villain checks

I personally do not know what the opponents think of her as a player. My honest assessment, is that she is a tight-straight forward player, and these folks seem to always pay her off! Yes, I’m jealous.

Villain in this hand, I believe to be a good recreational player. He has chips he uses as card protectors from casinos in different states. He will occasionally bluff, at a hand thinking he can take it down. Off the table, I think he is capable of balancing his 3-bet range and this appears to be the case, where he didn’t hit but still tried to stab at it.

Girlfriends reason in this hand, was to not get stacked with just a pair. She was fine with winning 50BB with her kings. She said the jack worried her, that he may have a set of jacks. She out of position on this guy and they both checked the turn and river. Did she miss a bet on the river?

I’ll relay your thoughts to her as soon as they come in =). Thanks guys

Most women tend to have tighter images at the poker table, and many players will try to bully them which is why she gets paid off more. Helps if she’s attractive as well – some guys just underestimate pretty women.

Very passive play here. I probably would have 4-bet pre, but this depends on the flow of the game.

By not 4-betting, I agree on the check call. His bet is really big, so take note of that. Could be an overpair trying to bully someone off of a flush draw, or it could be buying the pot. Obviously in this case it was buying the pot, so something to think about in later hands with him.

Don’t mind the check-back on the turn, seems normal letting villain take the lead.

After villain checks flop, she has to bet river. What does she lose to? AA and JJ, but I think both of those hands continue betting on the turn. Plus, villain has $250 left and she has over $1000. Sometimes you get coolered, but that doesn’t mean you play passive when you should be way ahead. Bet the river.
