I need to preface the hand in question with another hand this maniac player was involved in first. This is 1/2 NL that plays more like 2/5.

    Player 1: tight/aggressive
    Player 2: tight/nitty
Maniac: very aggressive with any two cards

Player 1 is UTG and makes it 12. Player two is UTG+3 and raises to $30. Maniac 3-bets to $60 in the CO. Folds to original raiser who goes all in for $205. Player 2 calls for slightly less. Maniac snap calls. Player 1 has KK. player 2 has QQ. Maniac has J9o. Board runs out 23599. He wins several more decent size pots and is at about 1K.

On to the hand in question. I start the hand with around $450 in the CO. There is a $10 straddle on the button. The maniac called the $10 blind before the cards were even dealt. It folds to me and I look at KsQc. I raise to $55. SB calls and has about $100 behind. The maniac calls. Flop is Kc5c4s. SB shoves for $100. Maniac calls. I have $395. What is the correct play? I debated this with a friend of mine at the table and he didn’t agree with my play but I want to see what you guys think first.

I think I prob shove this. Never folding. Sb is really the only player I’d be worried about. If the sb had AK I think he’s probably 3 bet shoving and not just calling. He may have hit a set but I’m guessing he’d check if he did. I’d think he prob has 88,99,KJ, or small Ax suited. The maniac. His range is so spread that he could have you crushed or you have him dominated. However, maniacs typically raise when they have 2pair+. I’d guess he has some crappy K, baby pair on the flop, or flush draw that he’ll more than likely call a shove anyways if he’s calling all ins with j9 off. What ended up happening?

That was exactly my thinking. My thought was, at best, KJ. I shove for $395 and he calls. SB has 99. Maniac has AA. I don’t hate my line, just unfortunate.

Yeah that is unfortunate. I think you also learn a tell from the maniac that he’s a little on the passive side just calling with incredibly strong hands both pre and post flop. That’ll pay off in the long run. Good luck!

I would raise 200 more on the flop and then put the last 100 in on the turn. Don’t wanna give the maniac any chance of escape! But tough result that he had aces. You played the range and 1/20 times he beats you there, it’ll happen
