first of all, Happy New year!

so for the hands, the first one is in the 2.20 Deepstacks ( I do play the microstakes, yes). We are making a run in this tournament and are currently 4/125 with around 700 000 ( first has 750 000). It folds to us on the button, where we look up at 7c7d. I open to 17600 (2.2bigs, my standard raising size). sb calls, he has a rather short stack of 320 000 to start with, big blind has a decent stack of around 500 000 and 3bets to 59 000.

since we are deep and the opponent is capable of making a play, I decide to make the call and play some post flop poker. I have him on 88+ ( what would kill us) and AT+, maybe even a low suited A

the small blind ( who I know nothing about) flats as well, putting in already a big part of his stack. he has around 250 000 left, with the pot being around 200 000 ( with antes as well).

    flop comes 7h8cAc

SB just rips it in, BB thanks a decent amount and decides on an all in as well. If we call we have around 200k left.

What’s your play? sb I put on a flush draw, BB might have AA? might as well have AK, AQ… maybe even KK or QQ, so there are a lot of hands that we beat

second hand: the Winter series, 5.50, we nearing the bubble ( 7 away actually) and we pick up QQ in middle position. we have 27 bigs and open to 2.2 bigs. Button ( who is a crusher ) 3-bets to around 7-8 bigs, putting us in a spot right before a big money bubble ( min cash was 31 dollars).

Button has a huge stack, and plays very good poker.

    whats your move?

First hand: I don’t see how you ever find a fold here. You’re only behind six combos of hands and beat so many more. Only hand the SB can beat you with is 88, he should never have AA here. He could have a lot of hands that are way behind to you or just drawing. He shouldn’t be calling preflop too light here, but at micro stakes it’s hard to say. Could have A8, AJ+, or something like T9 suited up to KQ suited, depending on the player.

The big blind could have AA and 88, but again, only 6 combos left. I’m guessing he has AK and tanked before calling wondering what SB would call with. Yeah, you probably have to fade some outs against the SB but I think you have to call.

Being a tournament, you have to decide whether you just want to cash or whether you want to win, and that affects your strategy. But with this hand, unless you are on the bubble and absolutely need to cash, I find it hard to fold here.

The second hand, I probably just jam. I suppose you would have to define as a “crusher.” He could be trying to steal and bully you, so there are some times that you win the hand outright. Some times he calls and is way behind with JJ or TT or has one over with AQ or AJ. So you’re only way behind AA and KK, and slightly ahead of AK.

I probably take the risk and just jam. 7 people away from the bubble is a lot depending on the size of the tourney, 6-max or full-ring, etc. You can probably fold now and fold your way to cash, but again, that depends on how you play tournaments.

So what happened in these hands?

First hand I called, sb had Aj off, BB had 88, I spiked a one outer on the turn to hit quads.

second hand I did jam, thinking QQ was too strong to let go. the BTN had KK and I didn’t make the money. If that spot comes up again I think I might fold, the mincash was 6x the buy-in, so did feel bad to miss it by an inch

Yeah, I get it in in both spots there without really questioning it. Unlucky that you were set over set but that’s so unlikely to be the case. Nice suck out to drill quads. You just can’t call a 3-bet pf with 77 and fold when you make a set on the flop in that situation.

With that QQ hand you again have the 3rd best possible hand. A crusher will probably be willing to 3-bet very light in order to push people around on the bubble, especially medium sized stacks. You’re most likely way ahead of his range. Unfortunate that he had KK :/ It is a tough spot since a mincash is 6x. That’s a lot. Still, cashing for $31 isn’t going to affect your life much. When playing micro tourneys you should play to win.
