..any comments/suggestions on how to improve my play?
$2/$5. My first time ever playing at this limit ($1/$3 game for about an hour..then everyone wanted to upgrade to $2/$5..I reluctantly complied).
Hero: $1,5xx stack – TAG young sexy Asian guy
V1: $1,4xx stack – late 50s/early 60s European guy; was the chip leader at table for the longest time – pretty straightforward; will chase draws
V2: $6xx – new young Asian guy; headphones; just sat down for a few hands; basketball fan (was watching Warriors highlights on his phone); vapesV1 – UTG – limps for $5
V2 – HJ – raises to $30
Hero – CO – calls $30 w/AQhhFlop: Ks Qh Th
Action:
V1 checks
V2 bets $75
Hero calls $75
V1 thinks for a short while, counts out $75 – then organizes 3 stacks of $100, stacks the $75 on top but does not immediately push the chips across the line; waits another 15 seconds or so and raises to $375
V2 thinks for a few seconds and shoves for $525 more
Hero calls $525 after tanking for a few minutes..calculating outs (9 outs for the nut flush + 3 for the gut shot straight; also has the royal flush draw)…finally calls $525 but did keep in mind that V1 is likely to shove all in if I call
V1 does shove for his remaining stack..$8xx
Hero tanks again..even longer this time (I’ve never played a pot this big before). Finally, composes himself and keeps in mind not to play “scared money”.I put V1 and V2 on some set combination, maybe straight
Flips in the chip for the call..
Turn: 6h (making my nut straight)
River: Js
..hero tips $50 to the dealer, $20 to the chip runner (btw ..what do you think of my sizing on the tips?? I think I tipped too much..dealers have no decision on the outcome of the cards..but I got too excited).
Took me 15 minutes to gather and stack all my chips.
Not a bad first time experience at the $2/$5 tables!
Any suggestions/comments about my play/analysis?
Oh, yeah – V1 shows Jh9d for the flopped lower straight, V2 said he had a set on the flop
Thanks all!

First I like the self-confidence of the Hero description.
Pre-flop I like the call, AQs is to nice to face a nasty decision if re-raised.
On the flop, I don’t like your call of V2’s shove. As You had less than a pot sized bet behind, there’s no way you are folding on a later street, so I think a re-shove would be better as it would have some fold equity against V1 (not a lot given the play, but some at least).
I’d also note that you should calculate your odds a bit lower. If you assume a J9 is out there already, that’s 12 out for flush and straights, with a set or two pair likely on the other villain, and a set making a boat 20% of the time, you are probably looking at 39% showdown equity against that play – but I’m still ripping it in on the flop.
Tip size was on the big size, or dealer-favourable as we may say, but understandable given that awesome result. Cheers Paul.

It’s pretty unlikely that you’re ahead in this spot facing a bet, raise, then a reraise, and if you’re going to need to hit your draw then you want more money in the middle for when you do.
Vs KK and Jh9d you have 34%. If you somehow fold out V1 you improve to 36% but with way less money in the middle.
And yeah you probably gave that guy the biggest tip he’s gotten in a few months but generosity is nice. It’ll affect your winrate if you make a habit out of it (sorry dealers).

So, I’ll keep watching and reading and try to learn some more. ๐
06/25/2017 at 3:38 pm #612RyanParticipantthe highlight of this thread!
“composes himself and keeps in mind not to play โscared moneyโ.”
too many people get scared and fold if your scared money dont bother sitting down to begin with!
i like how you played the hand and its always nice to make the nuts! you can feel pretty confident about your flush draw being live as no one can have Ax of hearts and be getting spewy so thats 1 good thing going for your hand ๐
im like andrew im not about the maths at all but sometimes when you got a big hand its just time to get it in ๐
06/25/2017 at 4:35 pm #618AnonymousInactiveThanks all for the feedback. Seems like my play was ok.
However, in reviewing my play, I’m not sure I made the right move. I feel like I paid a high price to gamble – which isn’t something I usually do unless I have great pot odds.
I sort of got sucked into going all-in because I had so much money in the pot already after V2’s all-in on the flop. There’s no way I’m not calling $30 preflop with AQhh. I think calling V2’s $75 bet on the flop was okay, too.
However, I’m not sure I was correct in calling V2’s all-in for $6xx after V1 had re-raised to $375.
I got priced in after I did make call of V2’s all-in. I’m starting to doubt I made the right call of $6xx, even though I ended up getting lucky and catching the flush.
07/02/2017 at 3:02 pm #787Max LacerdaParticipantI almost never tip, and only tip if its a big hand won in a showdown. If you’re a pro, tips really affect your winrate, yes, the dealers are working, but I let the rec players gave ’em tips.. Just my personal opinion, about the hand I think it already was pretty cover
07/03/2017 at 11:54 am #827NickParticipantWow. Max you really are a great guy! Do you tip wait staff at all? Karma my friend. I wouldn’t want to deal to you sir. I would suggest you change that habit of not tipping.
07/03/2017 at 6:39 pm #833Max LacerdaParticipantPersonal opinnions my friend, I don’t want to get in an argument with you, so you keep your philosophy and I keep mine ๐
