So I was wondering peoples thoughts on calling out nonsense at the table. Example: The “pump fake” fold then call, String betting, moving a big stack and saying call etc. I have always adopted the approach of the worse the player is the more I will let go but I was wondering what others thought.

In my opinion, there is one player per hand of cards and one dealer per hand. The dealer should be the on-site referee. If you have cards, and the dealer doesn’t say something, you should prompt the dealer to admonish the player. If you do not have cards, sit back, enjoy the show, take notes and STFU. In a cash game. In a tournament, its much more important to see something / say something, but not in a cash game.

Could you imagine this fun scenario – there is a body language expert at the table. They don’t keep their thoughts to themselves and every time its heads up and they have folded they verbalize all of their observations about both players to anyone within ear shot. There are rules about talking about hand combinations and probable holdings, but no rules about talking about posture, disposition or other cues to relative strength. But that would be equally as horrible for the players in the hand.

I agree that you should say nothing during the hand if you are not in it. After the hand though I think it is ok to say something. If I think it is just a player that doesn’t know the rules I’ll politely let them know. If not then the dealer or floor should be doing it.

If I feel it is intentional and breaks the rules call it out. If it is chip play with the stack, fine have at it, it often tells me more about them. If it is a newbie just help them along….

I think it would be best to get floor’s attention if it persists.

I would only ever say something if it is cheating. I have stood up in the middle of a hand that I was not in and called out the 2 people that were colluding with each other while a 3rd person was in the hand. he was telling his friend that he made a straight. Another time I caught a couple working together silently. they would trap someone in the middle of the two of them trying to get the guy to fold . kinda hard to spot but when I did I notified the floor to observe to see if he thought the same thing I did. they were eventually caught and was 86ed from all MGM/Mirage properties.
