I was playing a live home game tournament yesterday, and wanted to know what else I could have done to predict the outcome. UTG is usually tight aggressive. When he limped it should have raised suspicion to me since he hadn’t played many hands, but I didn’t think about it and was surprised when he flipped AQ. I thought he was trying to steal the pot since both blinds checked around. Guess I should be more careful.

Blinds are 4-8k w/500ante. I’m in BB with 66.5k and have 8d2d, UTG calls (about 80-85k stack) SB calls (100k stack) I check, flop is 8 2 J all clubs, It checks around, turn is 4h Sb and I check, UTG bets 10k, SB folds, I think for a minute and shove all in. UTG snap calls with AQ nut club flush. I bust out in 5th place.

I don’t know if there’s a whole lot you could do. Especially given it was 5 handed. There’s no way you’re not getting it in, and there’s no way UTG is folding. You’re going felt dust here. However, I’m more curious with 24K in the pot and you only started with 66k… why would you check that flop. Certainly you don’t want to see another club come off. Why wouldn’t you shove after the flop, or at least put a feeler bet out there? Regardless, flopping two-pair 5-way with only 8x blinds… don’t see how you can survive that.
