So this is the last hand I played in encore poker room(1-3) last week. I was UTG and I raised $15 with AcJc ($400 behind), UTG+1($700 behind), sb($250 behind) and bb($200 behind) called. Flop was Ks2c3c, everybody checked. Turn is 6c, bb bet $40, everybody called. River is Jd, bb bet $65, I 3-bet to $250 thinking bb is committed so I can size little bit bigger. And then UTG+1 shoved, sb and bb folded, and i called. UTG+1 showed 4c5c… his straight flush over my A high flush.

I really felt like I was just unlucky there but I was also thinking if I played the hand correctly? May be raise a little bit bigger preflop? or should’ve bet the flop?

My friend, the poker gods were against you. You were destined to lose it all on that hand. If he will call UTG plus one for $15, there’s not much else you can do to get him off of 45 of clubs.
And NOBODY EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MAN folded an open ended straight flush draw no matter how big the raise on the flop!

So first its important to note this cooler is a single card combo out of many things a villain might be in with in a similar situation. Clearly if this player called a 5x raise with 54s in that position you were not going to get him to fold 80% of a straight flush draw after the flop comes out. Raising much more than 5x UTG with only AJs seems long term poor idea, IMO.

This is the same as flopping top boat against quads. There really isn’t anything you can do about it; only one hand combo beats you, so there is very little to worry about, and its nearly impossible to sniff out. Tough beat, but — that’s poker.

Hi Steve, after reading your comment I feel so much better now haha. I called a night right after that hand or I think I will be so tiled.
