I started taking poker seriously about 2 years ago, but this year really took off for me, I don’t play often but I started my bankroll with 1 $250 buy in at 1-2 and grinded my way up to over 4k profit, I have used all my bankroll for a custody battle for my son, I’m just curious if anyone has any ideas on how I can build my bankroll again and deal with the swings when I cant reload, I have gone 3 times with only 1 $250 buy in (no money to reload) and busted, I’m kind of feeling like me knowing I don’t have the extra cash to make the correct calls is killing my play and my profit, I’m just looking for general ideas or tips on how to start from scratch! and any other advice.
thanks guys11/27/2017 at 4:18 am #1930Steven YoungParticipantIt is tough to build from one buy in at a time. Variance is real. You need a bankroll of at leasts 30 buy ins and probably more. Its tough to save 10-20k just to start out though. I don’t have much experience starting from scratch, but you could try a few different things. Try saving 2-3 buy ins before you go to a session. Or you could just play ultra tight, but that isn’t going to be the most profitable.
I struggle with this too, because I don’t get to play as much as I would like. Worrying about losing the money and not making the right calls is not what you want to do though.11/28/2017 at 5:59 pm #1978ChuckParticipantNo secret tips here – gonna have to grind it back up. Recognize you beat variance the first time and this time, you might not be so lucky. I agree with Steven here, save for a couple of buy ins – I wouldn’t want to go and not play my game, that makes for bad habits. The best advice I would give is go and hustle for some poker money and when you have your buy-ins, get back at it playing your game.

Sell what you don’t need. Cancel cable. Cancel subscriptions you don’t use any longer. While you are saving up for 5 max buy-ins, become a student of the game. You can do that much cheaper…good luck!

(Not bad for 2-3 hours and a free beer) I did it for months on the weekends and saw my Bankroll start. Then once you have some cash start grinding. You got it bro!
