Okay, a little background, playing a live bounty tournament here. $85 buy in and I bought the $40 add-on for a total of 12,000 chips. ~200 players registered and at the time of this specific hand, we are down to 49 players and I’m sitting with ~34,500 chips. Blinds are 800/1,600 (200 ante).
I’m in the HJ and look down at JJ. UTG (~57,000) opens for 3,400 and UTG +1 (~43,000) re-raises to 7,500. Folds around to me and I immediately was worried about playing this hand because both players seemed extremely strong raising from early positions and had me covered. I figured the only way I could potentially win this hand was if both players had something like AKs, AKo, AQs, AJs, or lower pairs and they were just using their huge stacks to win pots early from players with lower stacks. Regardless, I decided to shove all-in to try to win the hand pre-flop. Folds to UTG who snap shoves and UTG+1 snap calls as well. UTG has QQ and UTG+1 has KK. The board runs out all low cards (something like 7c4d5s2c10h).
Looking back now, I should have trusted my gut and made a disciplined fold. Would you agree or was it the right play for the situation but just unfortunate to run up against these two hands? Appreciate any advice. Hoping to learn the right play for this hand/situation in the future.
Thanks!
