Hey guys, so this is a hand I played earlier today in New Orleans. It’s a 1/3 game that is playing a lot more like 2/5, and we are sitting on $600 to start the hand.

The button straddle is on, and it’s a young, aggressive player who’s about $2k effective on the button. There are several limps to me in the cutoff and I decide to overlimp the $6 with pocket 4’s. I generally won’t limp, but in this game where even if i raised it up to $35/$40 we’d still be going multi way to the flop, I’m happy to limp 44. The aggressive guy on the button now makes it $25, and all the limpers call. I happily oblige.

The flop comes 9 4 3 with two diamonds. It checks to me and I decide to check to the initial raiser, and he bets $75. It folds back to me and since there is a flush draw on board I’m much more inclined to raise now and build a pot. It’s gonna be tough for him to get away from his overpairs, and I can balance my range to include all flush draw combinations that I may have limped in with. I raise to $235 and after tanking for a bit the villain shoves. I snap call, the turn brings the A of diamonds which is definitely not my favourite card. The river is an offsuit 5 and he shows pocket 9’s for the flopped nuts vs my flopped second nuts. Definitely one of those very frustrating cooler situations.

This is actually my first week of playing poker full time, and I’ve been running like the hand above pretty much the whole week. I guess those poker Gods know when to mess with you! Gotta keep your head up though and just focus on playing as best you can. Cheers guys

Pretty much a cooler. Don’t know if you can do much about it. I’ve folded bottom set on the turn in a similar situation, but it was very much of a player dependent lay down. In this case, against an agro, I’m happily shoving my chips in.

I’ve played the $1/$3 game in Harrahs New Orleans and like you said, it plays bigger than a typical $1/$3 game. Better luck next time.
