This hand comes from a WSOP ring event with a $365 buy in and about 2000 entries.
First let me tell you about a different hand. Blinds are 75/150, and I’m dealt Ad 4d in MP. Normally this is a fold, but I’ve been playing tight and showing down nothing but winners, so it seems like a good time to steal. I raise to 500, a guy wearing golf shirt calls, and it folds around to the big blind who makes it 1000. I fold, and then golf shirt makes it 3000. After asking him what he’s doing calling a raise, then four-betting, the big blind reluctantly folds. Golf shirt tables a pair of kings, and makes a smart-ass comment toward the big blind.

Now, for the hand I want to know about. I’m on the button with QQ. Blinds are now 100/200. Golf shirt limps from UTG, and another guy limps. I make it 800 to go, and golf shirt reraises to 2000. Second limper folds. I’m concerned about him having Kings again, or even Aces, but I call.

Flop comes out K Q 6 rainbow. He bet out, 3k into a 4.5k pot. I just call.

Turn was a six, giving me queens full. He bets 4K. I call.

River was a blank. He puts out a 5k chip. I had slightly less, but I put it in.

He flips over pocket kings, and that’s the tournament for me.

Again, is there any way I could have gotten away from this one?

Hard to ever see set-over-set (boat-over-boat in this case) coming in my opinion. I think he could have had AA (as you mentioned), as well as KQs (unlikely given blockers), or AKs.

Tough spot, but I think it’s just a cooler and I don’t see me able to get away from it either.

I am with Matt C. Even if he follows the same action-pattern as the previous hand, it’s VERY easy to convince yourself that this is a line he will play very polarized. Could he have A-K and play the same way? Sure. Could he have AA, JJ, 10-10, 9-9 and played it the same way? YEP. I think there are SO many other hands he would play this way, there is really not any way to get away from it, in my opinion. Tough spot and had you found some miracle way to fold it and he not shown, you would have been tilting HARD (Or I would be, anyway). Coolers are real.
