    Playing 1/3 NLH
AdQd on MP+2 ($310 effective). UTG, UTG+1, MP limps in; I raise to $16; Folds to SB ($600 effective) and BB ($750) and both call; Everyone else folds. Flop comes AhAs7d. SB and BB checks. I set the trap and check thinking I won’t get value on 3 streets. The turn is Qs. SB (he’s played a few hands but has been strong) leads with $25 and BB (has been agressive but had winnings hands) calls. I raise to $75 and both fold. (SB mucks, BB shows JhJs) Should I have just called the $25 instead of raising, allowing either to hit a stronger (but losing) hand?

going for min raise might have gotten calls ( as played) , then Value bet the river. You’re begging for KK, QQ,(which should have 3 bet preflop) KJs, KXs, 77 is possible here. You fold out a lot here with aggression ( as played). What happens when Ks, Js, 10s, 7 hits river and you get check raised ( jammed into) for a cooler. Your looking for some very specific hands to be here and preflop actions tells you their not holding your dream cards. The picture I get with your Topic is , If the BB didn’t 3 bet and over called with JJ, how is he calling when he gets raised . You might also have missed a thin value ($32-$38 or 3/4+ pot looks like a bluff IP) on the flop, your in position and a thin bet would look like a position bet on the flop, which villains would more likely peel one on the flop than the turn. And if your villains are leading out and over calling with JJ by the turn, i’d say no need to trap, they’re already on the hook for the flop. Taking the risk to induce ( when I flop monsters) backfires on me to often. Get your values out of monsters and bet them like bluffs in position.

    Jnuts,

Thanks… That’s good advice as I had a similar situation days earlier when I flopped a beast (not quite a Monster) then watch someone catchup on the turn. I will bet from now on and get what value I can (or at least “tax” them for the next card)….

Is there a bad beat jackpot at this casino? Definitely changes the hand.

As played, call turn and let them bet river. You have the board pretty locked down, not much of a chance they have an Ace. A raise here pretty much tells them their beat. Let one of them bet river and raise there.
