Was playing 1/3 at a local club last night and decided to change things up a bit. I woke up with JJ on the button with a raise of 12 to call. I decided to flat the 12 to disguise my hand. Will this play ultimately hurt me? Or is it okay to flat and disguise big pairs in heads up pots in position? The flop ended up come 478 rainbow and my opponent bet $20 into me(i flat). Turn Q and opponent leads again for $55 (flat again). River pairs the board and opponent now checks and i decide to check back and end up winning the hand. Thoughts on disguising big pairs and how i went about playing the two jacks?

I did this exact same things with jacks at Planet Hollywood and the aggressive player bet into me 3 times, putting me all in on river. I was happy to get the full double up.07/02/2017 at 6:50 am #757Jeff PParticipantI agree with Steve as well..as long as there are not too many people in the hand, probably no more than 2..flatting with jacks or big pocket pair is fine, I think!!

I would personally not try and trap JJ since overcards come otf so often.
Also, you should valuebet river.

Button (a fairly aggressive player), SB and BB call. Flop Jh, 7c, 3h. I C-Bet $30. Button calls and others fold. Turn is 2d. I bet $60. Button calls. Why? I am putting him on a heart draw. River is Jh. Awesome. Assume he hit his flush, but I have a Full House. I bet $100. He goes All-In for $300. I happily call. But unhappily see him roll over quad Jacks.
How might I have played my hand better?
07/02/2017 at 9:53 am #769ChanceParticipantWas playing 1/2 last night, was in the big blind with pocket aces. Folds around to the button who was a rich fish that I was looking to get in a big hand with. The button makes its $30 to go, small blind who was short stacked calls, I tank for a second and make it $75, button shoves all in (he has me covered by about $400) small blind tanks, then shoves his remaining stack, I instLl call and flip over the aces. Found I was up against pocket nines, and jack queen off suit. In the window is a nine. Small blind takes main pot I take the side. Was just an unfavorable flop.

07/10/2017 at 3:54 pm #946JamesonParticipantFlat with Jacks sometimes and sometimes raise. 70/30 flat to raise ratio could be ok! It could be player dependent too. If the player who is raising is raising a lot and willing to call light OP or 4 bet light, you’d prefer raising with JJ and getting it in. If they’re a tight player who doesn’t raise a lot err on the side of flatting.
