Playing 1/3 last night weird hand I lost money on wondering if I could have played differently.

Pre flop: I pickup QhQd UTG +1 I open for 12 folds around to the BB who makes the call.

    Flop: Js 9s 2h
Opponent donk leads into me for
18 dollars so like 2/3 pot I make the call.

Turn: The beautiful Qc giving me top set. Once again opponent donk leads into me for 45 dollars or around 2/3 pot and once again I only call I feel on the flop or turn looking back I should have raised but we take a river

River: river brings a Kc so all flush draws brick and the only hand that I feel improved that could have been leading into me over half pot for 2 streets is 10 J considering my opponent was out of the big blind I don’t give him credit for the best hands. He shoves all in for 80 more effective making it only about a half pot size bet to me to call. I call and he rolls over 10-4 off for the made straight on the turn and river while donking into me…. tilted I leave as I cannot believe he did it runner runner on me as such.

    What are your thoughts ?

Imho, there’s not much you can do here.
Maybe you can shove the turn, protect your top set against draws, pair+draw, double draws.

He might still have called you with his oesd, but that’s kind of what you want, knowing you’re way ahead.

By playing it passively, you actually let villain set his own price. I would take notes on this player, “calls BB with T4o, oop, donks with nothing”
Next time he donks, try to raise him (with a made hand or not) just to see how he’ll react. Or you can trap him in the future, or call him down with one pair, this kind of stuff.

As for that hand, it sure sucks to lose that way, but take this as info on the player, and be glad it was just for 50bb

    My humble opinion 🙂

    Typical… it does sting.
I don’t love the way you played it, but my guess is nothing would have changed.
When he bets into you on the flop, I would have guessed him to consider its very unlikely you hit, and much more into his range. But I guess you are not giving him credit for that sophistication. Regardless, I would have like to see you raise here as you would be charging him for spade draws and straight draws, as well has getting max value against a Jack.
Turn is good, certainly protects against two-pair, but not a great card as you lose to those straight draws.
Now that he leads into you again… normally I would be quite cautious as I no longer think I have the best hand. I have to think he’s made a straight. So I like the pot control call and we can always improve on the river.
After the river, now you lose to any 10. A-10, K-10, Q-10, J-10, and even less likely 8-10 would have all stuck around after the turn. All possible hands. With only $80 left for the shove, you aren’t folding but I have to think we’re not good here. 10-4 is just ugly, but would you have been so upset if it was one of the other possible hands I suggested? Just got lucky on one hand.
So is he a donk, or did he just play cutesy on the one hand and he got a lucky payoff. Regardless, I suppose you hope to find him at another table at another sitting and look to get your money back. Good luck.
