    2/5 9-handed
    Hero: 6x 6x UTG +1 (stack $950) bets 20
Villain: (TAG, stack $1700) calls from MP
HU to the flop of: Ax 9x 6x
    Hero: bets 20
    Villain: calls (pot $87)
    Turn: Ax
    Hero: checks
    Villain: bets 45
    Hero: raises to 135
Villain: re-raises to 345, asks “You gonna ship it on me, buddy?”
Hero: tank shoves for remaining 775
Villain: snap folds, disgustedly says “Sick of folding trips today”
I won a bomb-pot with a 6 2 bluff (showed the table) so I perceive my image as being on the loose side.
Hard to believe he snap folded trips here, but did I make a mistake by not flatting, then checking the river to him?

I don’t think it makes a different here. You showed your hand with the check raise and then shove. He knew he wasn’t good. If you would have tank called… then what would you have done on the river? Give up the value by checking, because after you called 345, he’s definitely checking the river. He’s only getting called by a better hand.
I’m not sure I would have played the hand so cute with the check flop. Very possible your opponent has an ace in his hand and therefore I think there’s value to bet the set. Plus this builds a bigger pot for your turn bet. I think if you value betted the whole way, you get three solid streets of value, hides the strength of your hand a bit and possibly even get a shove call on the river.
    That’s how I see it.

everyone lie about their hand all the time…

You can play it this way if you think this villain has AK, AQ, AJ in their cold call range pre because they’re not folding AK, AQ, or AJ most of the time. Or You only check if you think he’s gonna stab a lot and you gonna call then check/raise the river.

    I like bet/bet/bet.

What do you have when you check/raise/re-raise the turn?

I don’t think you’d have A5 suited and this is why betting here is better than checking. You are opening early position, you have all the Ax suited plus big aces, all of which you’ll keep betting with. You’re gonna check/fold or check/call one time the turn with the rest of your range. When you check raise the turn you only have boats plus AK.

I know you feel robbed that he hero folded here, but from his perspective, he’s beat most of the time and it’s hard for him to boat up vs sets.
