I wake up with AdAc utg in an action-filled 2/5 game. I raise to 15 and get 5 callers. The flop comes Js9h3s. I bet 80. Hijack and cutoff call. Others fold. I feel I have to bet here. There’s too many draws out there and I shouldn’t be behind much other than J9 or a set of 9s or 3s or maybe an occasional J3 as there were some loose players.
Anyway, the turn brings a gin card. The Ace of hearts. I turn the nuts and bet 200. I think I could even check this card to balance out my range for when I have QQ, KK, or a J with no ace. And if someone has a draw, they could bet, using this as a scare card to try to push me and the other player off a hand. As is, I did bet 200 and the hijack calls. Cutoff folds.
River 2s completing the flush. I do not have the Ace of spades. I check now. He sizes out a bet of 585. Now I tank for a good while and after about two minutes, he calls clock on me. I try not to think about the clock and just concentrate on breaking down the hand. Any two pair or set he has should have raised by the flop or turn with players behind on a draw heavy board. And it doesn’t make sense for those hands to bet big either since my range looks super strong when I open utg, lead into 5 players on the flop, and then lead again into 2 players on the turn. So I assume he must have either a flush (perhaps he had a combo draw like AsXs, KsQs,QsTs, etc.) or some super crazy bluff. And I don’t see him having many bluffs here when he floats twice with players behind him. I eventually fold top set and he shows me the As9c for two pair and the nut blocker. He asks, “Was that good?” I say no and then he said he knows and that he was turning it into a bluff since he had the blocker. I’m not sure what worse hand he would expect I would ever have or call with on the river to a 4/5 pot bet so maybe he really was trying to bluff me off of top two or a set. I’m really not sure.
Really interesting hand here and would love some feedback. Should I have called the river? Should I have check called or check raised the turn? Let me know what you guys think.

Super tough spot here, I almost feel sorry for you. Reaaaally hard to say, I think your analysis of the hand is quite good and complete, the only two solutions are your opponent is bluffing with AsXx or the king or the queen, or he really has it…
I’d say then it’s all about what you feel in the player in front of you. Even though it’s always painful to do that, I think letting it go is kind of the “best” decision here. The fact that he called such a sizable bet on the turn despite your super strong range makes me think that he could only do that with two spades.
I wish you better rivers in the future !
