ParticipantI’d like your thoughts on a recent tournament hand I played this weekend. I’ll add a few notes but the hand link is here:
The opponent is a solid player who can certainly be creative but also one who I “trust” to fold decent hands to strong betting lines. As the title suggests, he looked me up anyway and said afterwards that I was just representing too few hands to justify folding. I’m not sure that’s entirely true, but that’s why I’m asking for feedback.
The hand was played in a local tournament with a £25 buy-in. There were quite a few weak players, so that makes my choice to play back at the player I perceived to be probably the strongest at the table an interesting one…
Disclaimer: The suits of the cards are a guess. I don’t remember there being any flushes or flush draws involved.

Sam Pye. Reason: SMP link didn't appear

DavidParticipantI find it interesting that he said that you weren’t representing much. I mean, you could have flatted preflop with 99, 88, or 44 which would have given you a set on the flop. You could have also flatted with A9s, giving you top pair on the flop. It’s doubtful that you would have bet all three streets with just a pair of 9’s though. What about flatting preflop and calling on the flop with a 76s? Seems like you could have played that hand the same way. Without knowing the suits, its a bit more difficult to analyze. I don’t think it was a bad bluff. Maybe this guy had a tell on you as I’m not sure how he can call there with just a pair of 4’s?

StephenParticipantI agree with most of the analysis given on SMP. I certainly agree with a 3-bet if you’re going to play that hand as you can rep stronger range and potentially take that down without a flop. The only thing I may have done differently with the line you took was on the river, I definitely would’ve sized the bet a little bit larger to 85k.
As to whether it was a good call, can’t comment on that, but was it a bad bluff, other than being results oriented, a noble stab as it was the only way to win the pot and you took control with the Turn Bet so you had to fire the River.
