Villain was very active, playing about 80% of hands and betting aggressively. He had taken down most pots w/o going to showdown. clearly he didn’t alway have it, but the few times he made it showdown he did in fact have it. He was up about $400 on a $300 buy-in in less than an hour when this hand happened. I feel like I should have called just based on the the fact I was getting 4.5 to 1 but I really didn’t beat much. What else could I have done differently? When he let the flop, my thinking on not raising was to keep in his bluffs. When the turn J came and he leads again I could be beat or he could have turned equity with a spade draw. All thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks! Chris.

If he’s really a maniac, you need to size up on your 3-bet – maybe $100-125. You know these guys are going to call so you have to charge them when you have a premium and show them you’re not there to be pushed around.

On the flop, I get why you call to keep his bluffs in, but I don’t think that’s the right play against a maniac when you have a somewhat vulnerable hand. I think you want to put money in when you know you’re ahead and make him pay to catch up. When you just call you put him in charge of the hand and he’s going to keep barreling.

Generally, when someone bets same size on turn and river, it’s a sign of weakness. That said, I think he has way too many bluffs to fold here. You’re getting great odds, and you only lose to a random jack, 10-8, and backdoor spades. I think it’s an easier call when you put more pre-flop and flop pressure on him since the pot is bigger.

    Hey Chris
Usually ppl don’t lead out after getting 3bet especially after flopping a set. I think he leaded out to find out where he was then a J drop now he try to represent triple J but still get called. His weak river bet tell alot coz this kind of player when they got u crushed, they don’t leave money behind the all-in is less then a pot size bet. Maybe I’m wrong my read for his hand is he never have a flush for sure here is well disguise if he do have it, he will shove all-in, same for a straight. I put him on hands like 9-10, 9-8, (9-7) get conterfeit not suited spade of course. He is a maniac just don’t want to check showing weakness that may explain his weak river bet. Hope I could help gl
