Playing 5/5. Pick up A8 suited in the cutoff. Raise to $25. BB calls. Heads up.
Flop A88 (2 spades).
I raise $30. BB calls.
Turn is the 5 spades.
I raise $70. She makes it $175. I hollywood for a minute and then just call.
River is the 9 spades.
I raise $110. She makes it $450. I take 20 seconds to think before pushing $1,100 all in knowing only AA and 67 spades beats me and considering the pre flop action i dont put her on either hand.
She snap calls and reveals the sickest straight flush ive ever seen.Bummer for sure, Anon. You can’t lay that down, and I think your action was right. The only other option would have been to re-raise the turn – but like you said, there are 2 hands in the deck that beat you – and you were maximizing value.
Just sick to get smashed with a straight flush, esp. for $1100 in a 5/5… bummer! Hopefully you were only in for a portion of that $1100 stack, and not stuck on top or anything.. get back after it!
