Been playing 1/2 for a few years now just started taking it very seriously in February and started playing every day. So far I’m happy with the direction my results are going averaging around 1k a week. The problem is I could be making twice that if I just knew how to get up from the table when I’m up. I’ll find myself up say 400 in a couple hours then 3 hours later I’m down to nothing. Maybe the game is not that good but I cant help but want to stick around and try and make more money. I guess since the game isn’t that good I lose interest and go on autopilot. The books always say dont leave just because you’re up a couple buy ins but I’m always jealous of the guys who seem to come in and win a bunch and then happily just get up from the table. My thoughts are always why wouldn’t you stick around to win more? Anybody have any tricks or advice for getting up from a table when you’re up?

I think most pros will tell you that money management is equally as important as poker skills. Like any business model, you have to have a game plan. If you’re actually playing every day, then either set a time limit or a win limit. But it is hard leaving a table if you think you could be on a heater. So this is how I typically manage it if I’m playing higher stakes when I’m less comfortable. I do 1 of 2 things
    (1) I’m a good amount, I’ve played a few hours… time to cash it in. So I’ll just pick a remaining number of hands… maybe 10, or let the button pass, etc.
    (2) Limit yourself if you start to slide. Like if my stack drops 20%… time to pick up. Pick a number you’re willing to drop down to and when you fall to that number. Leave.
You’ll find after doing it a couple of times it will get easy to do. If you’re not going to be disciplined with your money management… then why even be on the site. I could argue otherwise if you only got to play once a month, but if you’re playing every day… heck… make your bank and get out. You’ll be back tomorrow.
