Have you ever had those sessions where you just out play yourself and you make every wrong move there is possible. Forget the training, forget the reasonably sain action. It didn’t even take a bad beat or tilt tonight. I sat down at a loose game and lost my mind it feels like. 1 of 3 hands I’ll get into. #1 btn straddle to 30 BB calls folds to me in the HJ and we look at AsAh I raise it to 125 the btn calls the BB fold the flop comes 8dKcJc I’m first to act I continue for 285 a lot size bet and we are effective for about 1500 at this point. The btn tanks looks to be hollywooding and so I take note of this and he ends up calling. The turn is the 6c bring the flush draw in. With Hollywood show note I check the turn and he checks back. A 2h come on the river and I bet out with 750. This is where I loose every once of knowledge i have ever known and i dont know why i did this. I started talking as he was in a 5 min tank and say the magic words any caller needs to know they have the nuts I say pick a card before i get to the end of my sentence he snap calls with Qc4c for the flush. I honestly dont even know where those words came from I’m never that talkative 1 and 2 I would never say pick one until this moment obviously. #2 Btn straddle 30 again I’m in the utg2 and I raise to 90 with As8s the cut off and btn call. The flip come perfect 6s9s10s i flop the nut flush the btn i see only has about 1200 behind him and the cut off has me covered by a mile. I ship it in for a little over 1300 the cut off fold and the btn calls. He ask what I have I say the nuts and he says you want to run it twice I said yes without ever knowing his hand #1and #2 this might be the only time I have ever ran twice twice I always RIP it. Turn comes blank and blank river the 2nd board come blank turn 10c river. He shows 9h10h. Effectively giving him more outside to save his money when I had him to 4 outs. # 3 the grand finale wtf am I doing here btn straddle of 30 I’m in the sb and I minraise with 2d3d early position out of position when a 3 bet and a 4 bet jam come my way for 575 I call thinking the 3 better was going to call giving me pot odds to be calling he ends up folding, so I run my beautiful suites connector cards into KK’s of course and the board runs out in his favor all in this session I’m down 4500. In a session I dont know what the hell was wrong with me!!! Lol like the poker Gods were going to reward my stupid play. Please comment I’m eager to hear these comments.

Hand 1: I don’t like the pot sized bet. I would have probably bet a little more than half because we don’t want him to go anywhere. But the tank call tells me he’s on a flush draw. When the 6c hit the turn… I’d like to see a down sized bet. But if he doesn’t have the flush, you’re downsizing the bet and if he re-raises, you know you’re beat. Qc is a horrible card because you’re not even beating anything but KK. I think you check the river and possibly call a value bet. Not sure why you ripped it in, but you almost fooled him. Don’t think he’s folding regardless.Hand 2: Not sure I followed why you shoved with only $300 in the pot. Its great that you got a call, but seems like there’s was so much value you scared off. I would be betting value town the whole way. regardless you got the call. I have no issues with you running it twice. Generally I would only want to run it once with the nuts, but I will also say that my nut flushes are getting smoked by sets converting, so not the worst thing in the world. If it was the other way around, full house completing on the first run, you’d have different feelings
Hand 3: Why are you playing 2-3 suited out of position. I don’t mind if you’ve been very snug and playing a semi-bluff… but not sure what you were thinking, or calling $500 pre-flop. When that feeling comes over you that you are going to do something stupid… the WTF lets go for the home run… time to pack up your chips. Once you do it once… it becomes easy to do and you feel better leaving with $500 in your pocket instead of wasting it playing stupid.
That’s what I think04/25/2019 at 10:19 am #4120Eric KeydelParticipantBefore this session had you had a few winning sessions on the books? I ask because sometimes you can go on a “winners tilt”. The second question is one of your mental state. Because you knew it was a loose game did you feel that you could crush it? It sounds like the first hand really got you off balance and made the pace for the rest of the night.
Whenever my state of mind becomes impaired I read “Ace on the River” by Barry Greenstein. It’s a good way for me to recenter my focus and remind myself there are going to be nights where you can do everything right, and still lose. It’s just the variance of the game. You can either fight against it, or embrace it.
I tend to Embrace the Variance. There will always be another game, another pot, and another day. Just play your game, learn from your mistakes, and keep swimming.

If you call it the “Poker Force”, then you know that sometimes you know you just don’t have a chance that night. When you feel that lack of “force” behind you, play tight and make sure you’re enjoying your music or the company at the table. Otherwise, try a new table or pack up and call it a day. Knowing when to remove yourself from the tables (money management) is one of the toughest things to do, but also one of the smartest. If you can limit your bad sessions, this gives you a better chance of being a winning player.
