ParticipantAfter having my stack get decimated despite playing fairly solid in a home 1/2 game where action was pretty hot (the other hands were pretty clear cut coolers not much I could do about that) I was dealt JQo on the button and I was just wondering if I made the right play.
Pre-Flop:
Button (me): opens to 10 after it was limped to me
SB: 3-bets to 25
BB (villain): Calls
Button (me): callsFlop:
J 8 3 rainbow
SB: bets 5 (basically a check)
BB: flat calls
Button (me): raises to 30
SB: folds
BB: reraises to 80
Button (me): all in
BB: callsmy stack at the point of the 80 raise was about 100 effective so calling makes no sense and folding just seems so tight turn and river are complete bricks and he flips over JKo beating my JQo by one kicker.

Chuck MParticipantIn my humble opinion, I think that on that dry of a board, I would’ve flat the flop. I mean, I understand that we wanna get value with our top pair after an “effective” check, but, I kinda wonder what worse hand is gonna call our raise in that spot.
I might be wrong, but, that’s what I would think 🙂04/04/2019 at 9:24 pm #4055
Chuck MParticipantwell, maybe there’s a few JT, T9 hands, but that’s a pretty narrow range to get value from, I think

ParticipantISO larger pre (~$15) for sure. Flatting the 3-bet kind of sucks here because we’re just so easily dominated facing a 3-bet and flat before action gets to us, but it is a very good price. however, because we are so easily dominated in this situation so often, we’re not really happy just flopping top pair/decent kicker.
I think your action post-flop is severely overplaying our hand for the reasons stated above. I think we check/call down on most brick runout, unless villain starts sizing up large, in which case we can just fold our moderate-strength hand here.

ParticipantThanks a lot for the insight guys makes sense I still got a lot to improve on but the way the action was going and knowing the 3 better post flop I doubt anyone had anything that beats our hand on the dry of a board. after I get raised however im basically just flipping and with my stack I wouldve been left with just flatting I made the decision to just shove.
