Hello everyone. I played 1/2 with players all 100 blinds effective.
An older gentlemen who has been limping tons, limps from MP on my right. I’m on his left & raise w 8Tcc to $10 to isolate him, B an experienced str8 forward player calls & the limper calls.
Flop is 974ss I CBet to 20 B calls.
Turn is Ad I bet 30 and B calls again.
River is Th and I check & B bet 35.
Obviously I’m calling as he will bet his busted FD but knowing that I’m most likely to have an A, a bet means he is very polarized in this spot.
I call and he shows J8ss. Any thoughts fellow crushers?

Only thing is I’m not sure he’s too polarized on River using such a small bet sizing: $35 into a pot of $135 is about a 1/4 PSB. You only need to be correct here about 17% of the time so I agree with obviously calling here. I think had he made it a full pot-sized-bet, or larger he would be more polarized.
I like check-calling as you did on the River now that you have some showdown value with a pair of Tens, that coupled with the price being so cheap, I don’t think you can fold here unless you have some sort of live read.
On second thought, though, (and it seems like you have played with this person, B, before so you would know better than I would) his small sizing here on the river I may look at it as he’s screaming for a call, and he was directly targeting any two-pair and single pair holdings in your range. Also, if he is betting some busted flush draws here, which I know I would, I think he would typically want to bet larger in order to not offer you such a good price on a call. Unless he’s thinking on a level where he is deliberately disguising his bluffs as a value bet, I’m thinking since he bet so small here he’s more value heavy in this spot than anything. Another question to ask is: would he be calling your $20 flop bet and your $30 turn bet with any single pair 9x, 7x, or 4x hands (hands that you beat)? Probably not, so I think that really only leaves busted flush draws for hands that you beat.

I also think that at 1/2, a busted FD will just give up & check behind a lot. Which concludes that when facing a river bet like this there is every possible reason to think twice even with an Ace in that situation. Thanks.

I don’t like the turn bet very much. 30 into 70. I would like to see you size up to around 60$ here as a bluff to really put pressure on your opponents draws and middling pairs. Next… As played he bets 35 into you on the river. I really don’t like this call off yours because he is truthfully never bluffing here. But I mean since you got yourself into this situation with the small turn bet, you are getting such good odds that you could justify calling here but I like a fold better.
