Monday night I went up to Harrah’s Cherokee to play and I couldn’t believe how loose and aggressive the 1/2 game I sat down to was playing. I was sure it was a table full of guys waiting to open a 2/5 game but it wasn’t. One of those games where you get felted because people decide to chase running cards for a straight or a flush. The really frustrating spots when you flop a set of kings and somebody decides to call you off to go after a 9 high flush draw that hits the river. That kind of play was going on for about the first 6 of the 8 hours I was on the table.
A hand comes along where I open up to QcQh in the HJ. I think there were two limps before it got to me, I raised to $11. Folds to the BB who called, and then the other limpers fold. Flop comes out 4 10 K, two diamonds. Villain leads for $20, and I call. Turn comes an off suit A. Villain leads for $25, and I call. River is 7d. Villain slides $50 into the pot, and I go into the tank. Aside from the obvious possibility of a flush or a straight, this was a weird spot for me as the villain had made several preflop calls with a huge range of hands. I rule out a set pretty quickly as I feel like he would have raised with any pocket pair instead of just calling preflop, which also was the same thought I used to rule out AK. Several times during the night I watched him turn over hands like 7/3o, 9/5o, etc that made two pair. Ax or Kx was not out of the question for this guy either. After a minute or so, I decided to shrug and call. He turned over 5/6ss which caught me off guard because I couldn’t believe he didn’t muck. I roll over my QQ, then heard a few different voices say “sick call.”
