Hey guys. I’m Matt in Alpena, Michigan. I’m 41 and made my a living playing poker over a decade ago! I was playing pretty regular online and in card rooms all over Florida. Back then the good money was in home games because Florida gaming laws put a cap on how much you could bet playing poker. There was rarely a no limit game going. Back then it was all limit hold’em. In the home games we would play no limit for much larger stakes than the casinos allowed. Then Moneymaker won the WSOP Main Event and you all know the rest of the story. Poker exploded! I played professionally for about 5 years. Mainly ring games but some larger tournaments with no real big scores. I got caught up partying way too much and blowing big money on sports gambling. Had to quit it all before it killed me. Now, I’m a year sober and have been itching to play again. I’ve only played a dozen or so times since I quit making a living at it. Then over the weekend I happened to be in a casino with a friend for the weekend whom loves to play high limit slots. I at first stayed clear of the poker room and shot craps and played the Ultimate Texas Holdem table game. I’m sure many of you know what one I’m talking about. It’s like the Let It Ride table game. Anyways, I ended up hitting a straight flush in that game at hit for around $1,200 and another $500 in the dice game. The next day I thought I’d hit the poker room see what was playing and if anything caught my eye, and noticed a poker tournament starting in 18 minutes and said what the hell, let’s play! I was a little nervous at first but quickly settled in and started catching some pretty hot hands. I busted the first person out of the tournament for an early double up and went on rush! I was soon “in the zone” and making great reads and just crushing the game. Made it to the final table (there were only 36 players) with a decent stack but took 2 nasty beats. Rebuilt, knocked out 3 of the players and got down to 3 players. Caught a bit of a cooler to go out in 3rd but was so happy with how I played and I felt like that validated my thoughts of playing again seriously. So here I am trying to build a bankroll and get to battle! This was probably the longest intro on this forum and nobody is probably reading this far down but that’s me. Lol. Cheers y’all!
