Check this out for a bad turn of events. Was playing my usual 1/2 NL Game on Saturday. There were two total maniacs at the table building stacks. I was dealt an A10HH, board came QJK, rainbow. I checked, maniac bet $15 in a $45 pot, dealer called, and I call. Blank turn 3, I check, maniac bets $25, we both call. River is a J, I bet $45. Maniac pops it all in, $275 effective, dealer goes allin, I snap. This guy(Maniac) shows a king high straight, I show broadway, AND THE DEALER Shows the rivered Full House QQJJJ. What a crappy way to lose a monster right!! 1/2 has too much variance due to bad players. Should it be safe to say that 2/5 would be a better move??

1/2 or 2/5 I still think you’re losing the max. I don’t really see what happened as being due to “bad players”.

    Variance? Yes.

    Cooler? Absolutely.

Hindsight being 20/20, perhaps a better line would be the charge the draws on the turn. I think you might get two pair to fold.

    Tough one for sure!

You should have raised for value, certainly on the turn; though given villains bet size, I’d be raising that too.

If you can’t beat 1/2, you’ll likely loose quicker at 2/5, honnest answer.

PS: You want two pair, sets to call on the turn… though you still should be for value, as they will likely call.
