Hey all. Playing 2-5, villain has been relatively solid. No real crazy hands or goofy plays. Our stacks are about even at ~$450
There are a few limps to our villain on the button, who opens to $25. I am in the BB with QQs, and decide to 3-bet to $90. Folds around to him and he makes the call. At this point, I put him on a wide range. He could be opening light on the button, but calling the 3-bet makes him a little more weighted towards a real hand. Not 4-bet, so I feel like I am definitely ahead here.
Flop is Kh9c4h, and I do have the Qh. I bet $100 on this. He raises to about $330, and my stomach sinks. He doesn’t have AAs or KKs or 99s (A/K are a 4-bet, 9s are a flat call imo), but he could definitely have AK, KQ, KJ, K10. I do also give him credit for flush draws and J9, J10, 109 sort of hands.
I have been in a huge downswing and have been card-dead all night, so of course I call like the idiot I am being. He flips over AK and the board runs clean for him. I know the call is bad, can’t really defend it. I am more curious about leading this flop…should I? I feel like a K is much better for my range than his, it just happened this time that it wasn’t. I think I like a lead, but down-size it to more like $50, as I’d get the same information and wouldn’t feel quite as committed to the hand.

Pretty standard pre-flop play, and given his imgage, his 3-bet call tells me definitely a legit hand. I’m not sure I would 4-bet there with AK as your 3-bet (depending on your image) would be of concern to him. If you were playing a bit loose… than definitely a 4-bet, but my guess is he doesn’t want to 4-bet with you shoving. So the pot has $180 and not a great flop. I think you need information and your range is fine for you to bet here. I would have down bet a little bit to about $65, just because AK is very much in his range. When you see the re-raise… I gotta think think AK or hearts. I gotta think he has to have the Ace of hearts to make that bet. Which means he is either AK or AQ suited. But he’s not AQ suited because you have the Queen hearts. That leaves me to believe that he has AK and I think you can let it go. Given the players image… what exactly are you beating? Your beating A-10 suited? I’m not so sure he’s calling A-10 suited. QJ suited? no way he’s calling the 3-bet with that.
Having said all that, not necessarily the easiest thing to work through live. Much easier to analyze after the fact. So my recommendation would be to think about what hand he is representing that could be possible and worthy enough of calling a 3-bet? -
