This is a general question about my betting line when flopping open ended straights with a front door flush draw. I have been in this situation twice in the last couple sessions… similar to the hand below:

    http://www.sharemypair.com/smpweb/smpviewdetails/feed_id/33990

I am drawing to 9 clubs and 8 cards for the straight.

In these situations I am inclined to get it all the money in on the flop, knowing full well I’m up against likely top pair at least, with 17 outs. If I hit my flush I think I’m less likely to get paid, and have enough equity after the flop to at least call.

I’d love to know if anyone else would play this differently.

    Thanks!

    Hi Matt,

first of all, you actually have 15 outs, since two of your 8 outs for the straight are already counted as flush cards 😉
but still, you’re in good shape against tptk, and you’re pretty close to flip against 2pairs or sets.

You can get in on the flop, since you’d have significantly less equity if you miss the turn. Or you can call down, (depending on the action on the turn).

For the hand you posted, I would’ve folded pf, calling 96s oop vs a tight player is not my favorite choice 🙂

One last thing, when villain has top pair with a dominating flush draw, like in that example, if he had KJ or AJ of clubs… you drop to 6 outs. Of course he won’t have a bigger FD all pretty often, but it might happen
