I won’t go into too much detail the hand because it pretty much plays itself out via sharemypair. However, I have a couple questions.

Is it possible for me to get away from this? I went through the list of hands he could have raising in early position and it seemed like the majority of them are no good there (AA, AK, KK, QQ…. even AJ, KJ, QJ (not super likely though).

Another aspect of this hand that is certainly important. This was around the 6th level (30min levels) of the main event tournament. I had been playing relatively aggressive. I wasn’t getting much credit for having hands… combined with the fact that I am a younger kid. I think these small factors might have clouded my judgement a little bit during this hand (I was looking into them more than anybody else actually was).

This is just the basic level of what I was thinking at the time. I actually hate the raise I made on the flop…or how I played the hand in general. I think the flop raise ultimately convinced me that he had a high pocket pair instead of a gutter.

For anybody responding, how would you have liked to play this hand? I didn’t do the best job, but maybe this is one of those times you get run over by the deck.

That raise on the flop was the best thing about that hand. A lot of players just slowplay their sets, but that was a coordinated board. You have to raise here because there are so many bad turn cards for you.

I don’t think you played it bad at all. Just a really unfortunate runout. He should have had more sets and overpairs here than that offsuit gutshut he called with.

He played bad and got lucky. You played fine and got unlucky.

I think if you put villain on KJ, then KQ would be in his range as well.

The raise on the flop was great. I agree with John, on this board, play it fast. It’s so coordinated, it would almost be criminal to slow play it, you have to charge opponents to draw against you. He hit his gutshot, but you still have plenty of outs, just unlucky in this hand.
