My wife and I are planning a cruise for early next year. Probably either Carnival or Royal Caribbean.

This will be my first cruise ever, and I’m curious what you guys think of the poker on these things.

Is one cruise company better than another?

Never played poker on a cruise – but I would be interested to hear if you can get action. My guess would be it’s totally hit-or-miss if you have people on the boat willing and able to play – and what amount of time they will commit to a table-game inside a ship’s casino when they have spouse, family, and paradise outside… I LOVE poker, but if I am on a ship, I am probably doing something else. If the weather is crappy though, and you have a day-at-sea — you might have a whole herd of people wanting to play. Could get interesting!

Yeah I can imagine most of my time spent playing will be days at sea while the wife is either at the spa or asleep. I don’t often get the chance to play in real cash games where I live, so to be anywhere near a poker room is a treat. I’m sure there will be a fair amount of people in the casino though, since I’ve heard that’s the only place you can drink for free on the ship. Bring on the fish!
