I’ve put a lot of thought into possibly joining one of the poker training sites, such as Crush Live or Upswing (maybe Negreanu master class??). I’m an OK/decent rec player, but I’m at a point where I’d really like to invest some time and money into studying the game and taking my play to a higher level. There is only so much free content out there to study by, and I’m strongly considering making the investment to have access to deeper content. By no means am I looking to go pro, I have a full time job with steady salary and I have no intention of walking away from it, but I would like to have poker as a potential means of making money on the side.
The conflict I’m having though, is that I only get to a casino to play 2 or maybe 3 times a month at most and I’m not sure how it will work out for me. I know the answer I’m looking for is dependent upon what I’m willing to put into studying and pursuing the game, but given that I play just a few times a month and stick to 1/2NL, do you think that joining one of the training sites would be worth it? Any suggestions on what would be a good starting point? Again, I know there isn’t a cut and dry answer, but I would appreciate any feedback or direction that could be offered.

Personally, for me, I think watching youtube vlogs (Brad, Andrew, Jaman, a little bit of Doug and Jeff) and then participating in the forums is enough for now. It is definitely & drastically improving my game, and I haven’t had to spend money yet. I think once I move up in stakes, then I may need to invest in training, but for these stakes at my rate of play I’m good.
This is all cash – for tournament I’d probably go get some training, since I have no idea how ranges break down, and then what shoving ranges are for stack sizes.

As far as training sites go, all sites have their pros and cons like anything else. Sites such as upswing, RIO, RYE, etc… insist you invest a lot of your time to get the most out of all their content on offer. This site’s suit those who are looking to turn poker into a career but are NOT limited to only these types of players. Daniel Negreanu’s master class would suit you well as it is only 38 classes and he seems to go over the basics in a moderately thorough manner. There is some advanced content but nothing too difficult to understand. Twitch channels is another form of content that can prove quite useful. I use to watch a channel wowpoker. His channel solely consisted of cash games. There is still so much free content out there to learn from.
