I’m about 4 hours into a 1-3 table stake game at stones, sitting on about 660 and the effective stack for this hand. Villian sat down about 20 mins ago and bought in for 800, which matches the biggest stack at the time. I’ve played with him before and know him to be a relatively competent player. OTTH
V opens to 15 from UTG, I have JhJc and 3 bet to 55. folds back to villain who makes it 155. I think for a bit and then make the call. 310 in the pot.
flop is 852 rainbow. he leads for 125 and I think for a bit and call. pot 560.
I don’t think I have much choice but to call here. I guess I could shove to protect against overs coming on the turn and river, but that just feels like a massive overplay, where he’s gonna fold everything worse and call everything better.
Turn is the Qh, bringing a second heart and a potential flush draw. He bets 400, effectively putting me all in. and I start tanking, trying to talk to him to get any reaction…
I think he’s certainly capable of doing this as a bluff with all of his AK combos, but 20 mins into a 1-3 session, I have a hard time seeing him running this big of a bluff, so I give him credit for having it.
He also has a pretty clear range advantage over me, since I don’t 5 bet pre, so he can have both AA and KK, but I really can’t. I don’t think he gets to the turn with AQ very often, but it’s certainly possible and I’m losing to that now, which means the only hand I’m beating here at this point other than some sort of suicidal bluff is AKhh.
Eventually I fold and he mucks his hand, so I never found out what he had.
So, what say you? Good or bad fold? Any thoughts on the flop or pre-flop play?

His SPR doesnt make sense for his bluff size unless he has those or possibly pocket pair 88, 55 or 22 or a strange combo for 2 pair which is crazy based on his line. The fact that you have played with him before and something told you to fold it was probably correct. My issue is you fed him another $125 before you folded. Ill roughly qoute Bruson. “when you play with a guy for a while your subconscious remembers and you shouldnt ignore those feeling you get”

1- Bets 15 UTG.
2- 4-Bets to your 3-bet preflop.
3. Bets 125 on the flop which is less that half the pot.
4. After your flop call he fires 400 more.
I belief he definitely put you in a good hand since you call his 4-bet preflop plus his flop bet of 125, still he fires 400 on the turn. In my opinion he had an overpair (KK or AA), unless he is an extremely good player to fire 400 on the turn with a hand like AK. I give a lot of credit to 4-bets preflop, especially when deep stacks. Your chance was to fold on the flop when you didn’t hit your set, in my opinion. -
