Have a ? on a hand 1/2 nl 40 to 100 max. In 4 60.00, active table. Built stack 175 playing tight. New guys joins table proceeds to start to run over table, big trash talker, raising 3 out of 4 hands. Claiming he crushing it pairs, AKs QQ hand after hand, I waited, pocket 10dh, on button in seat 1. Trash talker raises to 25, seat 6 calls and I call. Flop Ks 10s 9h. Trash talker continues for 35.00 seat 6 folds. I wait 30 second or so and I go all in. Would be losing to JQ and Q8, So no snap call good for me, he tanks for about 3 minutes saying can’t believe he gonna fold, trying to get me to say something and I just picked a spot on the table and stayed focused did not say a word, He folds says he folded trip 9. Should I have just called or reraised?

You’re not losing to Q8 unless I’m missing something. You’re only losing to KK and QJ.

This is an easy jam for a lot of reasons. First, a lot of the deck is bad for you. Any Q, any J, and any spade besides the 9 of spades is bad for you. So that’s about a 3rd of the deck that either beats you or kills your action. Get the money in while you’re good. You will fold out some worse hands, but how comfortable are you to continue when the Queen of spades rolls off on the turn?

And second, it’s letting the maniac know you’re not going to be pushed around. Winning a hand without showdown against a guy like this is a good thing. You win the money, he’ll usually back off a bit, and it will give the other players some courage to play their hands, and most of the time maniacs will settle down once they’re not pushing the table around.

And there’s a 0% chance he had a set 9’s here. I imagine he’s calling off with any gutshot here. Probably had something like a random Ace.

Good stuff Murrietta. I have the same 50BB $1-2 game at my casino. Very hard game to beat in my opinion. Gotta stick with premiums only and hope the hands hold. I think the jam was fine, maniacs are still smart enough to know, if you called a 17x raise preflop and call a “big bets” on the flop, they’ll slow down on later streets.

The board is extremely wet so putting pressure on him to call was a good play. I agree with John, he doesn’t have a set here. From your description, he’s trying to pysch you guys out. He probably would’ve shown, showing how “good” he is.

I can only say that John and Han are spot on, this situation is a jam pretty much always, show him who’s boss. You are far more likely to get a weak call from this player than be beat. Well played
