Ok so I have been playing poker for about 8 months. Have been obsessed with it since I started. I play 1/2 cash at my local casino and all the decent structure tournaments they have on. I’m a very competent player especially against the opponents I’m playing against on a regular basis. But it’s like I just cannot get a good roll together. One week I’ll be up 2k next week I’ll have a few bust outs and had coolers and I’m just Really stuck. Been going on for about 4 months now. Nearly in 3k debt because of it. I earn 600£ a week at my job so it’s pretty tough ATM I know my cash game play could do with some work but I mainly play tourneys. Have won a few before but whenever I have won they have been 2k first place. For a 100 buy in whenever I’m playing a bigger one I just get bad beat or extreanly card dead. I know no one gives a shit about your bad beat stories but mine have been a joke. Any advise ? Feeling very frustrated and questioning this whole poker thing in general? All seems so up and down not sure i can handle the swings anymore without a proper bankroll. Thanks

To me this is life changing. But the way I’m running in flips etc I just can’t see it happening. I don’t think I get outplayed an awful lot most the time I get it in very good just can’t hold ever.

If you’re playing £100 small field MMT’s your bankroll should be around the £5k minimum mark (About 2% buyins) if you are a really good player and even to some that’s low. I’m not saying you can’t get good playing poker for 8 months, but with that amount of experience I would tend to say lower percentage buyins in relation to your bankroll would be the way to go.

The variance is much less than Tournaments12/05/2017 at 11:45 am #2061KevinParticipantI have been playing recreationally for 15 years. I have a great job and make decent money, so I don’t abide by strict bankroll management.
I have been in your spot many times and I suggest you study up on your cash game play, so you can build a roll and take some shots at a good tourney score. I have been listening to some hypnosis videos (you tube) before a tourney or cash session and it really seems to be working. Might just be a placebo effect, but whatever works.
Finally I would suggest learning some mixed games. I learned most on my own by reading online and play money on line, then you can jump in some other low stake home mixed games(horse, triple draw, etc…) I think new games “recharge” your brain helps it focus more during nlh sessions or tourneys.
Variance in poker is a bitch, but just keep , learning and making the right decisions good things WILL happen!
