Alright, I want to share a number (10…) of quick hands with not much commentary. I had a bad night (and capped it with a really dumb play at the end). I’d appreciate thoughts on any of these.

I was playing with a decently tight image. I am working on being more balanced, but my opens are usually pairs or broadway cards. I do think I probably C-Bet too often. Effective stack is always about $150, playing $1/$2

I don’t know if anyone will even read all/any of this, I know it’s long as hell. But I’d appreciate thoughts on anything you see here.

    1) Qd9h in MP, I limp-call $12. 5 to flop of 10-3-2 all hearts. Checks to raiser, he bets 50, all fold. He shows pocket 3s.

    2) 9-10 off in BB, two limps to me, I open to 12, both call. Flop is Q26 rainbow. SB donks for $20, I fold. He showed down AQ off…why he didn’t open, idk

    3) red 7s on Button, open to 11. 4 callers. flop is Q104, two spades. SB (different SB than previous hand) donks for $20, I fold. (yeah, pretty similar)

    4) K9 off, limp-call $10. 5 to flop of K66. Player to my right donks for $10, I call. turn is a 7, he bets 35, I mini-tank fold. He says he played 6-7 off

    5) QJ suited in MP, I open to 11. SB calls (SB is super loose and splashy). Flop is J86 rainbow. I bet $15, he slowly calls. turn is an A, I bet $25, he calls (all-in) for $20. river blanks, he had A-4 offsuit.

    -New Table-

    6) QJ off UTG, I open to $10, get two callers. flop is KQ4, two clubs. SB (old-man coffee) donks for $30, I fold. board runs out Q, blank. SB had AK off and won that pot (bet $20 on each street, got called). I would appreciate some thoughts on this one…It’s a tight fold, but I know he has a king when he bets there. Turns out I’d have scooped a decent pot here, but gah

    7) AJ off in mid, I call a $10 open. button 3-bets to $30, gets 1 caller + me + 1 caller behind me. Multiple all-ins on a K9J flop (not me, I got out of the way fast). Can I call that 3-bet, or should I have stayed away? Hand was won by K-9 off to my right that boated on the river

    8) AQ off in MP, I open to $15. SB Calls. flop is K66. King is great for my range, I bet $20, he calls. turn is a 7, I check it back. River is an off 3, he bets $25, I fold. He shows pocket 8s. Should I keep stabbing at this? SB is a regular player, who is pretty solid but also pretty sticky. Knowing he had an under-pair, I’d probably get him off his hand, but how often does he not have a K here?

    9) A2 clubs UTG, I limp. 6 to a flop of K94 all clubs. Finally. Checks to the button, who bets $10. Only I call. turn is an off 4, checks around. River is 7 clubs. I bet $25, he calls. Actually win a pot

    10) Ok, here’s my usual ‘Been card-dead, let me force something….annnnd there goes my money’ play. 6s in EP, I open to $8, get 4 callers. Flop is 442. I bet $20, get 3 callers. Turn is a 9, Checked to me, I check. behind me bets $25. He’s a fairly solid player, although sometimes loose. He could have just about anything here. It folds back to me, and I shove for $75 total. Yeah, I know its horrible. I was hoping he had two overs, maybe a flush draw…idk. In retrospect, I’m never getting called by worse here. As it turns out, he had pocket Jacks (where’s the 3-bet?!). River bricked, and I’m gone.

This is most of the hands from my short session. I left out 3-4 pocket pairs that whiffed the flop that I then folded. I don’t remember the last time I made a set. If nothing else, writing this post has made me less tilted about the night and my idiocy…somewhat

I’ll cap the post with what I added to the end of my own notes: “What a shit night. I played poorly, and had either no cards or no flops. Well, one. Ugh”.

    Cheers

    Hi Hans,
    1) Open fold preflop
    2) Check your option. T9o is too weak to raise here
    3) Fine fold
    4) Open fold preflop
    5) Seems fine
    6) Open fold preflop
    7) Depending on the opener, 3-betting is an option here. Calling the 3-bet seems fine.
    8) Think your flop bet should be smaller (~15) and then you can bet large/overbet the turn.
    9) Should be opening this hand occasionally as a bluff or folding. Post-flop seems fine.
    10) Flop bet can be smaller here. I think you should just be calling the turn bet.

    Thanks!

You really need to tighten up your pre-flop range.

Fold hand 1 and 4, fold hand 9 UTG. Just check hand 2 and take a free flop against multiple opponents.

    Hands 3, 5, and 7 are fine.

Hand 6 is okay to fold when an OMC donks the flop, but I wouldn’t hate peeling one card here either. Folding is exploitative, but if you know your opponent is only betting top pair I think it’s fine.

Hand 8 could go either way. You could fire a second bullet on the turn, but that flop is pretty dry and you’re not really getting much to fold. What can this guy call the flop with? A 6 (not folding), a King (maybe folding a really weak king, but calling some as well), or a pocket pair (which you can get to fold). So you have to hope he specifically has a pocket pair like 88 or something like K2 suited that he’s going to fold. Definitely villain dependent.

I don’t mind hand 10 that much. I’m probably betting the turn as well. You stand to be ahead of a lot, especially if there is a flush draw out there.

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it.
I’ll tighten up my range further. It’s interesting, I thought I was being tight-ish already lol.

Do you think this format of posting works for this forum? I usually have a few hands per session to ask about, but I don’t want to clog up the forum with a bunch of posts all at once. (aka, I had another session where I did play tighter, but still lost the max)

Yeah I think you can continue to post like you did. If they’re different stakes, game types or themes between some then you should make multiple posts otherwise I think it’s fine.
