It’s late on day 2 in a tournament in London England. 26 left, 17 cash.
Blinds at 2.5k/ 5k/ 5k button ante. Effective stack 165k (33BB) I’m in the SB with Q9h.
It folds to the button who has around 290k, he limps. I would normally raise Q9h out of position with the action that has happened in front of me but the BB only has 55k (11BB) so it’s either shove my 33 bigs or call. I elect to call and the BB checks his option.Pot- 20k
Flop- 4s 7h 9cI lead for 12k, the BB tank jams his 50k and the button tank folds but had picked up 40k for a raise.
I take the buttons planned raise and tank fold as a big draw like 8T or 68 with which he was intending to raise me out of the pot thinking I was taking a stab.I think any ace in the BB shoves pre flop along with any pair and any 9 better than mine. So I rule out sets, overpairs, A9/ K9. So the hands he’s shoving for value are 47, 49, 79 but with the 9 blocker 47 is the most likely shove along with draws like 8T and 68 but putting the button on the same draw also makes it less likely for them both to have the same hand.
I tank for around a minute and a half and unfortunately a player decides to call the clock but the floor explain to him that I haven’t taken enough time to warrant a clock call.
So I think the reasonable hands he could not be raising pre flop and then shoving the flop that beat me are: 9 combinations of 47, 6 combinations of 49, 6 combinations of 79.
The hands I think he could shove that I am ahead: 68, 8T, 89, 9T, J9, K7, Q7, 56, 78, 76.
I never think he’s shoving with absolute air with his tournament life at risk into two larger stacks but in the end I call the 38k getting just over 2.1/1 on a call and he turns over A9.
Turn is a J river is a 2 so I brick out.
Any feedback and opinions would be great.
I think in hindsight I would raise pre flop to 12.5k to which he would probably shove and I would fold to the shove to prevent this hand from happening.
Also, knowing what the button hand after, even if the BB folded and the button did raise to 40k and I called he would have turned a straight anyway and with second pair against the buttons wide limping range I could have been in a tougher spot for a lot more chips with my tournament life at risk.

Another possibility would be to fold pf, and wait for a hand you’re ready to iso or 3bet shove pf (to get hu with player in BB).
I just re-read your post, it’s a limped pot, yeah, you can also complete the sb to see a cheap flop. When you decide to lead out, i think id b/c with that hand, or x/f, (even though it’s pretty weak) but not b/f.
I think i like in that order :
X/c > b/c > x/f > b/fI’m no pro, but that would be my 2 cents š
