Participantso im under the gun looking at AQ on a $1/3 game, raised to $15
UDG+1 called $15 and so did the button who has big stack
action goes to small blind who raised to $30, big blind fold
i call, udg+1 calls and button calls.
pot is $120
flop is A35 off suit
I have $150 left, so i bet out $30 to test the water,
UDG+1 folded right away, button called and the big blind tanks for a while, saying why is this happening to me, etc etc, then shoves his remaining $140 all innow i go to the tank, im thinking i have An ace, the buttoned called me so he probably have a weaker ace, because im thinking the small blind probably have Kings given his reaction and wanted to gamble…
I almost folded, but given my reasoning it warrants a all since i only have $120 left,so i called and the button snap called.
turns out the button who has a huge stack, and was running very hot, has 2,4 and the big blind has AK
of course button takes down the pot
what would you do in my position, obviously i didnt consider that the button would call a $15 raise with 2,4, and the probability of all four aces delt out is very unlikely…
thanks

pokerfishParticipantI don’t think the bb will go all in with a pair of Ks or Js especially when you led into him after the flop. He could have A3 or A5 suited and raised pre-flop as a squeeze. Either way, you were dominated there. I totally understand why you call: top pair very good kicker (i probably would have done the same). But all you beat is Aj which would have just called your bet instead of going all-in. my 2 cents.

ParticipantI believe that we are pretty much expected to fold AQ here most of the time because the preflop 3bet in small stakes almost guarantees that the player has AK/JJ+. You’re looking at being dominated by AK here so much of the time it’s not even funny. I don’t ever see a player at this level shoving in this spot with QQ, KK or set of Aces. I would have had a hard time folding but I would have with the action behind. Of course, you might have had a live read we don’t have here.
Mathematically, it looks like you are getting 2 to 1 so you only need to be right 1/3 of the time to justify a call.
