    So,

sometimes before I have to be to work. Like lets say I start at 3PM I will enter a poker game around 1pm and play until 2-2:30.

Today I did that at a 1,2 table at harrahs. There was a long wait so I played some other games ( i don’t recommend it) but yea, I lost about $300 playing odd table games. I finally got my name called and I happened to have about $45 in chips so I just went to the table sat down with the expectation to buy more chips.

The first hand was already being dealt so quick I just pulled out $40 that was in my pocket to add to my chip stack. I basically played every hand not caring so much because of the small stack and I felt like having fun, I had nothing to lose. Eventually after going all in 3 times I finally lost that weak $50 stack so I bought back in for $150.

I played hard and very loose for the next hour, I made $500. Some of the hands I was playing were K9 off/ A4 OFF / J10 OFF / K8 OFF / and ANY Suited A. I hit 3 straits and trips once.

I guess My point of this post is just to ask does anyone else sometimes go just for a quick hit and run ? do you have any luck with that ?

It depends; do you see poker as a fun pastime or something you take seriously? If you take the game seriously and you play intentionally “bad” at times you take less seriously, you will be reinforcing bad habits.

    this is very very true.

for sure Erika has it on the spot.

See, i want to take the game serious and I want to be full time. I will be. BUT, I will always make sure to throw in a few FUN days.

Poker, if this becomes a full time job couldn’t you treat it like any other full time Job? you’d want to be happy and make money right?

The days when I do a “quick” stop or what I call “speed poker” are just days when I have extra money to play with and days when I NEED to just lay back and have a good time.

BUT it is very dangerous as Erika stated, don’t pick up bad habits. Also, don’t get me wrong, even the days that I am playing with the intention of having fun I am still “thinking” of spots and pot odds and playing the players. The difference is I’m looser about it and I’m showing it, its a really good strategy.

I come to the table with a small buy in and I pretty much shove a weak hand. with the intention to buy back in and play tighter, they will mark me as a fish when all along it’s just bait and switch!
