Just curious if anyone thinks I misplayed this hand.. was playing with a friend of mine at the same table and he didn’t seem to exactly agree with me.

    Anyway,

1-3 game 200-500 buy. Stack size approx 575?

I’m UTG and straddle to 6 with 2/5 hearts. UTG 2 makes it 16, folds around to me and I call.

Flop comes A-4-5. Rainbow.. ACE of hearts.

I check, He makes it 35 and I call.

Turn is a 3 of spades complete rainbow.. giving me the straight.
I check and he bets 60… I tank for about 30-45 seconds debating on how high I want to raise. And settle on 160. And he calls.

River is a 6. I bet 200 into a pot of about 405, leaving myself about 175 left. He jams all in and has me covered just slightly. I snap call.

Dude rolls over A-7 off!? I somewhat react by saying something to the effect of “are you kidding me!?” With an expletive or two..

Anyway, I can’t believe he called the 100 raise with a A-7 off.

Anyone have an issue with how I played the hand? Open to suggestions.

I think it’s just a cooler. I wouldn’t expect many 7x (not even 87s(well maybe, but not often)) in his range. He opens form UTG2, bet, b/c, et shoves river. I’d expect him to have a big A, maybe a set, most of the time.

As for you, (52s was a little bit loose of a defend pf 🙂 but if you wanna play that villain HU, why not, it’s not as bad a hand as T4o or so…)
Then your line of c/c, c/r, lead river shows a lot of strenght, that might look like aces up or a small set (’cause we could expect you’d 3bet AJs+ pf maybe? i dunno).

And for the question (on the turn I can imagine), of him calling the raise with A7o, (basically a gutshot, that’s about it, cause you’d beat his ace most of the time). And he’s drawing to a 2 for a chop. So he’s effectively drawing to a gutshot and that’s pretty much it… unless he thinks you could turn an overpair into a bluff and tries to hero call you. But yeah, imo, that was a pretty loose call from his part.

You succeeded to extract value when you were way ahead, but river came and spoiled it all 🙁

I’d have probably folded pre-flop, but not the worst call in the world.

Flop play makes sense as does the turn.

On the river, there’s no way I’m betting into a four line straight on board with the dummy end. What hands can possibly call you other than someone who will chop with you or someone who is ahead of you? I just don’t see value in betting there, and certainly not a snap call. I’d have taken the check/call line in this situation.

I also think your opponents turn call was questionable, calling 100 into a 350 pot but some people just can’t get away from top pair.
