The situation: early level of live mtt. I have ~9K. Open-raiser has just re-entered for 5K (I busted him 2 hands earlier) and is playing about 50% of all hands, folding multiple times pf to 3 bets. He is a “fun” player that likes to drive the action. A retired rock is in BB.
Fun guy opens 50/100 to 1650. Yea, an open 16X. I look at K9d on btn, and get the gears cranking. Why so much? Is this guy going into spew-mode? He was pretty jovial and talkative until I outdrew him 2 hands earlier, now he’s quiet and stiff, and has put on his shades. I don’t think he’s targeting anyone in particular, but the weakest player at the table is in BB. Taking into account fun guy’s attitude shift, the ridiculous open sizing, and a soft spot in BB, I shove. Fun guy is clearly annoyed, and his shades come off immediately. I like where this is going. Then, out of deep left, the BB calls all-in, less than my stack. Oh Billy! He has awoken to QQ. Fun guy mucks before the total count is announced, and very deliberately says to the BB, “I’m folding to your hand.” and shoots me a sideways glare. Booooooo!
So, was this your classic punt a very playable stack in a dicey spot, or do I get unlucky the BB has a primo?
FYI: BB flopped a Q, essentially shutting me out on the flop. When it rains, it pours.
