If you won a prize in a poker tournament, would you guys still put that in your poker tracker (for whatever the value of the prize won)?

I wouldn’t add it for the purpose of tracking hourly win rates. Things like high-hand promotions, bad beats and bonus hands should be added to the bankroll, and if you put the money on the table the total buy-in but does not reflect actual skill in the game.

Why wouldn’t it include skill in the game if I bought into a tournament where you win a prize instead of money?

I guess I should be more specific. I won a tournament where you win a trip on a poker cruise. You get some money for travel expenses amd they give you a few buy ins for tournaments on the cruise along with tickets for the trip as well. I’m just wondering how to include that when I track it since I am getting some money and buy ins to a couple tourneys. Though most of the value is just in the price of the tickets for the cruise.

Misread the question (just got back from a long trip) but understand now.

In that specific case I would add it to a specific tournament winnings but not to a bankroll. You could add the value of the tournament buyins as bankroll but the rest, since I assume it can only be used for the trip, can’t be part of the bankroll.

In general, if a prize is in addition to (like the platinum passes they did for that MoneyMaker tour) I would not count that as a prize but if a prize is in place of (like it seems your trip is) I would say that prize is the winnings and the approx. cash value can be put in.

I think you can include it on like a yearly total, but not a session total, if that makes sense. It is a benefit of playing poker since the casinos are giving away this money, I just wouldn’t want it to affect my hourly rate or my winning session rate.

But, you have to decide why you are tracking your winnings.
