Should not have played this OOP, I know it’s coming, playing 1/2 NLH buy in for 100 bb’s. Im holding Q9h UTG, I elect to just call since I know it’ll get raised and I’m willing call there as well. It gets raised to 12 by UTG+1 everyone folds, Cutoff calls. Floo comes Q 10 2 rainbow. I bet 40, player to my left folds, Cutoff calls. Turn is a 9 of spades, I bet 100, she shoved, I call, I leave broken hearted. Thoughts?

In my opinion, it’s just a cooler.
Pf, I don’t really mind the limp/call, but if you’re ready to call a raise, why not open raise yourself? Less chances you’ll get 3betted than raised over your limp. But it’s still a weaker hand to open utg, imo. You’ll often be outkicked. It’s a nice hand to play multiway IP tho

Yeah, it was a cooler. I don’t like playing Q-9 UTG, and calling a raise out of position, but we’ll let that slide. From the information you gave, you made a pot-sized be on the flop, and she called it with an inside straight draw and zero overs. Then she caught a three-outer to win. That happens sometimes. Reload, and make her pay for every draw she sees for the rest of the session.

You called a raise OOP, lead into 2 people, bet flop and turn and then get shoved on… did you expect her to shove one pair after you showed so much strength?

Check is better on the flop with one pair and first to act with weak kicker. It’s more of a check call kind of hand. It’s hard to put her in exactly J8 since she raised preflop though so i don’t hate the call after hitting 2 pair.

I agree with The House, unfortunately this happens. Best advice is like he said punish her from that point on, nothing cheap. Also good point is about tilt. Cuz that kind of hand can ruin a session so think about how you react and overcome tilt. For me that’s my toughest part of poker. Find what works for you to get you back on track and take those peoples money. Good luck bro.

I would consult your pre-flop chart. Mine says Q9s UTG is a fold. What are you going to get? Even flop a Q, your still left with a crappy kicker.

Not condemning, just voicing what’s going through my head.

    Hey Gil,

Rough hand. I don’t like limping in general, but especially in early position. Q9s may seem like a decent hand but often times it’s dominated and you’ll be forced to make some tough decisions when you flop one pair hands. You should be folding it from these spots and raising with it in later positions.

UTG+1 makes a strange decision to raise with J8s. I don’t like that play from her either but we’ll move to the flop.

On the flop you shouldn’t be leading here, especially not for a pot sized bet. Usually, you’ll only get called by hands that have you crushed. JJ would probably fold. The point of betting is to either get better hands to fold or worse hands to call. I don’t think we can accomplish either with this sizing (except somehow you did so kudos to you lol).

The turn is pretty sick. The UTG+1 player played preflop and the flop wrong and then got rewarded for her mistake. I would have a hard time putting anyone one J8, but perhaps TT or KJ, so if the opponent shoved for a large amount then I wouldn’t snap call… I’d probably tank for a long time, then realize I’m not good enough to fold, then I’d call and not be surprised that I’m beat lol.

    Better luck in the future.

    -Brad
