1/3NL table. Hero on a massive heater…table chip leader with 800+ stack. Villain is a new player at the table, but no real info on him.

Hero is in middle position w AKos
Villain is in either UTG or UTG+1

Villain raises pre flop to 15, folds to me. Raise to 40.
    Folds around to villain.
Villain shoves all in. $360 total.

    What would you do…

Im not a big fan of putting 120bb preflop with AKo, but it depends on your read with villain, is he a gambler, lag, tag, normally passive?
Also, if you have the possibility to run more than one board, u may be flipping, so, it depends on your read imo (can he be shoving KJ, TT, AQ?)

Didn’t have much of a read on him since he sat down 15 mins prior. He seemed confident after staring him down. I felt at best it was a coin flip for 1/3 of my stack. I think he was strong…put him on AA/KK. maybe QQ. Would he shove against the table chip leader with JJ/TT/AQ/KJ after just sitting down at the table?…I don’t think so.
I folded AK. Thought it was the right play

I don’t like your re-raise. Its an unknown player, you have little information, so I don’t see how you can re-raise here. I think a call would be a better play. Also, when you raise to $40 and he shoves for $360. That just doesn’t make any sense at all. Likely you are facing JJ or QQ, given your blockers, AA & KK are less likely. But sometimes bad players love to over shove those premium hands in fear of losing. They love to throw away value.

Bottom line for me, treat new players as tight players until information provides otherwise… therefore if tight player raises, I’m only calling with AK off. Probably just calling with AK suited as well. Either way, it seems like you got away with the weaker hand and simply saved value.
