It depends; do you see poker as a fun pastime or something you take seriously? If you take the game seriously and you play intentionally “bad” at times you take less seriously, you will be reinforcing bad habits.

With dead money in the pot; and the fact you’re representing a percieved very tight range imho you should have raised larger pre, that said, I think losing to a flopped set here is fine.

    Hi Kevin

I mostly play NLHE myself, although also have an interest in the mixed games.

I’m new to live… however; I doubt an experienced pro is playing only 50bb deep. 10 sessions of live might not actually amount to too many hands vs the opponent; which is something to be mindful of when you are making reads.

If you want him to value bet wrose, c/c on the dry flop seems totally fine.

What was your preflop raise size?
What is your read on your opponent?
Are you in the money yet?
Where is the money/move up bubble, and how many players are left?

PS: If the action ended preflop; you don’t need to show the board, it will only get you to think results orientated.

You should have raised for value, certainly on the turn; though given villains bet size, I’d be raising that too.

If you can’t beat 1/2, you’ll likely loose quicker at 2/5, honnest answer.

PS: You want two pair, sets to call on the turn… though you still should be for value, as they will likely call.

    Do you use a HUD?

    What are your stats?
What are your opponents stats and over how many hands?
Is this fas hold’em or regular?
Do you have any reads on your opponent, what are they?

Why did you call the turn?

You called a raise OOP, lead into 2 people, bet flop and turn and then get shoved on… did you expect her to shove one pair after you showed so much strength?

Firstly identify the type of player, because you won’t find many Tom Dwan’s at 1/2, but that doesn’t mean everyones a fish either.

Are they always seeing a flop no matter what the price?

Are they willing to pay huge bets pre, with a wide range of holdings, hoping to flop big and or bluff you off your percieved range post often enough for it to be +EV for them?

Are they looking at implied odds and making loose calls pre to stack people?

I’d say live players are far far far less nuanced than online players, even online recreational players. You can raise very big even half someones stack pre and people will call with dominated hands OOP, or call trying to hit a set despite the SPR only being 2 on the flop.

I would focus on identifying the mistakes each player is making and come up with a strategy to beat them that works for you.

I had a bad session at the casino recently; afterwards I also felt that I was playing too focussed on my holding and shifted from my own strategy.

So the next time I was heading to the casino; I verbally aloud said a little mantra, basically verbalising key words; objectives for my session… it helped me to stay focussed and play my own game.

There is one called ‘Poker Bankroll Tracker’ on the Adroid Play Store.

Personally; especially nowadays if you can’t beat 1c/2c or 2c/5c, you’ll be asking for trouble if you started to play at 5c/10c or higher… unless for whatever reason you cannot play your A game at the lowest stakes but for some reason can slightly higher.

I used to play 50nl and some 100nl, briefly for a living some years ago… when I returned the “regulars” playing 1c/2c would play like the 25c/50c regulars used to some years previously… online poker especially as evolved where it isn’t as easy as it used to be, so to beat the game, at any limit, you need to be more professional and play a supperior strategy.

I’d suggest starting at 1c/2c and moving up when you feel confident and you are more comfortable with your bankroll. There is plenty to learn on the lowest stakes online, especially in todays tough climate for poker. I’m currently still playing 2c/5c on Poker Stars, where before I was preparing to take shots at $1/$2 online.

Focus on improving you yourself and your play and don’t worry about the limits you’re playing, just keep on improving imho.

Hi, I’m in the UK and are in a similar situation.

What I did was basically just to give it a shot; I set aside a budget of 2 buy ins out of my regular money and sat down. Between visits to the casino I would save what money I could and add it to my bankroll and build up my skills and my resources by also playing online.

Do you have any higher live games available; I’m in England, only encountered 1-1 and 1-2 so far, anything higher needs to be arranged.
