Hard to say without having a better appreciation of how the hands played out (starting stacks, number of players, betting action, etc). Detailed information on what your set was vs. the 9’s, for example would be helpful as well. Responses will differ if you flopped a set of deuces on a board that ran out 10 high.

When playing no limit, it’s obviously important to exploit every edge to its maximum potential.

As a general rule….I tend to bet my value hands a bit larger against those players I consider to be “sticky”.

    Good Luck at the tables.

It’s hands like this that led me to stop limping into pots with small pairs. 🙂

As played though….After the villain’s flop bet, I would have put in a raise, probably to $100. I wouldn’t want to give the players behind me a good price to chase any draws. A bit of a moot point as they all folded anyway, but wanted to share my thought process. It’s doubtful you would have seen the straddler fold, and he wasn’t going anywhere on the turn. He got lucky and hit his “8 percenter” on the river.

Hopefully your next buy in went much better.

Hand 1: For what it’s worth…..I would have played the hand in a similar manner. Some would argue that you should have been able to find a fold on her river bet. I believe it’s very “read dependent” Not sure if you’d been there long enough to have a feel for her playing style, but her leading out for that amount, coupled with the way that the hand developed, does lead one to believe that she most likely filled up on the turn. If my math is correct, you were getting around 6 to 1 on the river call. (I’m assuming the other player folded on the turn) Not easy to find a fold there.

Hand 2: I don’t mind your pre-flop and flop decisions. The check raise on the turn would give me pause. What’s the villain repping there? You have to consider that he might have slow played a flopped set. Instead of re-raising all in, I would have called for pot control. The ace on the river may have allowed you to get away and save those chips. I know that line is on the tighter side….but I am the true personification of a “TAG” player. Emphasis on the “T”.

Hand 3: Close on this one. The pot is laying you about 2.5 to 1 on a call. Depending on how aggressive the button is….he may have viewed that King as a “scare card” and is putting you to the test. I don’t mind a fold there, as long as you’re mixing in some 3 bets in those situations so your opponents don’t make a habit of trying to exploit you when they have position.

Also – it would be great if you could also provide approximate chip amount. My feedback may have been a bit different knowing the stack to pot ratios.

    thanks for posting.

I’ve read Spike’s thread on 2+2. Thoroughly entertaining. I recommend.
