    Hi all,
As you might have noticed, this is my blog/thread about my poker journey. I’ll write my sessions reviews, hands, toughts, etc

If you’re interested in reading my previous years of poker, here are the links.
    2018
    2019

Let’s start with my year goals :
    – win 55-60% of my sessions
    – finish the year Up
    – play a bit of PLO
    – aim for 40 sessions, maybe between 100-150 hours
    – play a bit more tournaments, let’s say between 5-10 (closer to 10)… Even 12 shouldn’t be that hard to do

    – Bonus : take a shot at 2/5

    Session(s) #1 (and 2?), January 3rd

I played yesterday. We were 3 friends going for a bounty tournament. (65+25)
    20k starting stack, 20min blinds
    1st break (2hours of play), I had 9k
    2nd break, I had 80k

Then, after being in the 90k area, I had hands to raise pre/fold post,
Blinds went up, with the BBante, an orbit was getting expensive.

I went out in 38th/214 (top 27 itm)
But I’m happy with my run

    There are 2 hands I would’ve played different…

1.5/3k/3k, i got 60-65k to start the hand. Villain covers me by 20ish k.
    I open 6k in HJ with A5hh
    BB called.
    Flop (16.5k)
    QJThh
    V leads 3500, I flat
    Turn (23.5k)
    Blank
    V shoved, I folded

I didn’t want to risk my tournament life on a draw with one card to come. But I think I should’ve raised the flop, maybe 15-20k and ready to gii with my 12 outs, it’s pretty much a flip, and I may have some FE when I raise.

    ///

    2nd spot
At the end, I’m down to 28k with blinds 3k/6k/6k.
Table change, I come in on the bb, post 6+6 (got 16 behind)
There’s a raise, a shove, a call, I look down at Q6o, thought I’m dominated, folding looks stupid with my stacksize, but I’ll have another orbit to play if I do so… So I folded.
    AK vs AJ
Woah both my cards would’ve been live
    Board went Q3456, lol
But trying not to be result oriented, I think 3way, i might have 25ish % i guess I should’ve stacked off. Maybe with any2, or even in the dark, just for fun.

I bust on the next hand, finding an ace on my small blind (A6o) lost to KJ on 226Jx

Then I played a little cash game, 50 minutes, waiting for my friend who was still in the tourney.

I opened and folded when I missed flops
    Got gradually down -$55

    Then I open QJ,
    flop 4way : T95
Checked to a guy who looked down at his chips, made a move with his hand towards them, then ended up checking.
I was planning to cbet, but seeing that, I chose to check back, didn’t wanna see a check/raise.

    Turn A
Chk to him, he bets 12, I call

    Riv 8 (bdoor diamonds)
He bets 15, i raised 45, he tank called with A9

    Was up +17
And my friend busted from the tourney at the same time, so was time to go.

    Sesh #2, January 8th

I played last night. Good game, good table.

Was about even for an hour or two.
Then dropped a little bit with KT, flop J94 checked around, turn 9, i bet/folded to an omc’s x/r.

Then i opened QQ utg, flop 4 way, Axx, i x/f

    Then (stack of 170ish)
4 limps to me, i overlimp A4hh in CO, BTN raised to 12, 3-4 calls to me, and I called too

    Flop (60)
    K86hhh, bingo!
3 checks, two to my right bets 50, I flat, btn and ep players folded. HU to a :
    Turn (160)
    5c
He bets 50, I have 105 left, I put it in, he snap called, I showed my nut flush, he turns over As8c
    Riv 3s

    Now back up to 360.
Stayed for another 20-30 minutes, nothing much to say, didn’t get another spot / hand, midnight came, so I left.

In for 220, out for 345

I played last night. Got there an hour later than I would’ve liked.
    In for 200

    Started pretty well.

    I opened AJdd
    Made runner runner flush,
V lead riv, I raised, he called with an underflush.

    Was up 130ish.
Felt good, i was already expecting to book a win.

Few hands later, I open AQ, flop 4way,
Axx i check, short stack shoved 45-50 (around pot I think)
I called, and I win vs his 44

But I was there for only an hour or so. And since I play only once a week, that makes 6 days of anticipating my next session lol. Didn’t want to leave after an hour.

So I stayed. And got card dead.
Sometimes I had hands, like KQo utg, open, get 3bet, had to fold (would’ve won post flop, but folded rightfully since i was dominated by AK)
    Setmine, never hit,
Mid sc or gappers, don’t hit.

So my stack melted and melted…
Limped pot, with J8o from bb
    Jxx
    I c/c 10
    Turn J
    I c/c 30
    Riv 9
Check check, lose to KJ, nh sir

Opened KT, KJ, couldn’t find a good spot (or hit)…

So I quit after 4 hours of play
Out for 105 (could’ve been worse)

But that left a bit of a bitter taste thinking I was up almost a buy-in in the first hour… Oh well

    Sesh #4, January 19th

Sunday was the first day of the World Cup of Cards at the Playground Poker Club.
I played the first event, a $220 8max deepstack reentry.
184 players showed up, 34 of them reentered.

It started pretty well for me, had a lot of nice spots to get some chips.

Fast forward till we were 50 left.
Got lucky for my tourney life, went all-in with AQ vs A5 on a A5x flop.
Hit that Q on the river.

I then made it to the money, top 23 were paid. Busted in 22nd in a preflop allin for 2bb QTs in CO called by BB with 72o flopped a 7
I didn’t take it bad, was pretty much an automatic call from his side,
Making it to the top16 of final table would’ve been awesome, but I’m pretty happy with my run.

I then went to play some cash game.
    1/2, in for 200 (max)
Won small pots, lost small pots, I was around even for the most part, then :

I raised K9cc, got called from the blind, hu to a flop, check check.
Turned an ace giving me nfd, i failed to bet there (dunno why, played to fast i think) and lost at showdown to KT.

7handed, i opened K4s co, btn good reg min 3bet me, i flat (shouldn’t have)
    Flopped a K (K73)
    I c/c his 15
    Turn paired the 7
    I c/f to his 40-45

Then another spot, it’s a straddled pot, 1/2/5.
Late limps, i make it 18 from BB with AJhh, straddler calls (good reg), limper folds.
    Flop 234ss
    I c/c his 20
    Turn 3hh
    Chk – Chk
    River Ad
I thought about b/f, but with the busted draws (mainly the frontdoor spade draw) and atm I thought he might even be betting smaller Ax.
I chk, he 40, I ended up calling
He showed 4-5 for the wheel
    Nh

    Cashed out for 50
Was disappointed to lose my tourney profits :/
But oh well, I think my mistake was not to change seat (or table) with that lag (sometimes he was) reg on my direct left. And maybe I was playing a little bit on the auto-pilot…

But it’s not that bad, i played 4 hours

    Tourney #3,January 21st

Last night, I went back to Playground for a special event, lots of fun.
It was a 220 Roll the Dice 8-max.
The player on the btn rolls a dice, and the result determined the variant played for this hand. A bit of a Dealer’s choice with a randomized twist

    The games were :
    1 – player’s choice (within the 5 next choices)
    2 – NLHE
    3 – NL Pineapple
    4 – PLO
    5 – 5card PLO
    6 – NL Crazy Pineapple

I took notes on a few hands, just for fun.

    1. 5 card PLO, blinds (?/?)
    Few limps, I overlimp QTJ65hh
    BTN pots, i folded.
Was kinda wondering if it was a playable hand IP. Unfortunately, didn’t wanna pay a big raise oop with it.
Guy got called, he had AAxxx and caller had something like KQJT9
    Aces made a boat
So Im ok with my fold since I was totally dominated (i guess)

    2. PLO (600/1200)
Again, a few limps to me in HJ (or CO?) With AAT4hh, decided to flat. Was wondering if it’s a good spot to iso, I guess it is, now that I re-read my notes… Didn’t like the un-connectivity of my T4 and my single suit, that’s why I wanted to see a cheap flop IP, but maybe I should’ve raised…
BTN pots to 6600, a call or two, so did I.
    Flop KK5cc, I x/f to his cbet

I would’ve raised with a more connected or double suited hand, but maybe I played this one a bit too weak too

    3. 5 card PLO, (800/1600) – funky spot –
Limped pot. I check my option on BB with JTxxx.
    Flop JT4r.
I decided to lead. I announced 3500, had an eye contact with the dealer, making sure he understood my bet before dropping a 5k chip plus a 500 chip.
One fold, next guy calls with 3 yellows and a purple (exact change). Following player (i was in seat 8, this player was in 2) just dropped the same 2 chips as I did, a red 5k and a purple 500.
Now, lady 2 seats away correctly declare it should be a min raise, since it’s 2 chips. Guy in 3 starts saying I didn’t say anything dropping 5500, dealer said he heard me, guy in seat 9 as well, another player says “well, seat-1 called with an exact 3500”
Floor came, dealer explained the situation, the min-raise is binding, which is ok to me
Seat-3 says “just because of all that I fold” (lol)
    Lady now shoves for 11500.
Back to me. Fot top2, it’s pretty good. But I don’t have any redraw or backdoor opportunities…
    I folded.
Min raiser called with JTxxx with a gutter I think, so I noticed he was freerolling me.
    Lady had QQ9xx
    Top2 held
Afterwards, I think I should’ve just drop the 5k chip, then wait till the action is closed to add the 500 chip (to make it “easier” to get my change… Even if 2k change or 1500 doesn’t make much difference…)

Anyway, I think my fold isn’t so bad (i would’ve risk half my stack to chop, and as i said, the other player was freerolling me with his redraw)
In that instance, maybe it should’ve been a x/c (?)

    4. Pineapple, (1500/3000) – final hand –
Dead small. BB posts 3k. Timer beeps, next hand, blinds are gonna be 2k/4k.
Got 21500. Utg raises to 6k.
I got AsQc6s and decided it was the perfect spot to shove, i’ll be flipping or somethimes even could be dominating villain’s Ax.
I shove. Folded around, UTG calls.
    I drop my 6
He drops what, he told me after, was a K.
    AQ vs 88
    Board : KJx84
    Nh, gg

Finished 14th out of 57 players
    Top 8 were paid
    So close.

But I’m happy with my run, and had a lot of fun playing different variants which I don’t have lots of accasions to play πŸ™‚

Yup, went to play a lil’ session last night. In for 225.

Table was pretty loose passive, lotta limps, when raised many of ’em were calling. I thought it was a great opportunity to play small pocket pairs (any pocket actually) and suited connectors and gappers.

    Called a raise with T9dd
    Flop 4-5 way : KdQd6c
    Called the cbet
Turn : 8d (I really wanted to get that Jd!) I bet 25 when checked to, got called
    Riv. Brick
Chk to me, i bet 60, got called, my hand is good

I later got lucky vs an omc, with a very balanced range πŸ˜‰ (was limping everything (JJ, QQ, AK))
    I opened AJs he called
    Flop AK5, bet/call
    Turn 3, bet/call
River 5, he leads, i flat, he shows AQ, we chop

Then, I butchered AK (a bit scared to lose my profits, I know money shouldn’t interfere in a decision, working on that).
    Straddled pot (1/2/5) 2 limps
    A guy (late 30s/early 40s) raises to 17
    I flat AKdd, flop 4way
    F. AJ4ss
    Or cbet 25, i call
    T. Ts
He bets 30~35, i noticed he had shaky fingers (flop and turn), i thought he might have had a set or aces up
I ended up folding, he then showed 77 with a spade.
In retrospect, I’s like a 3b pre here (to 50ish) (~260 eff) (or a call turn and re-evaluate riv)
The shaky hands confused me a little.

2 hands later, I open AJdd, same villain.
    Flop 3 way
    Ah6h3c
    He donks 10 (into 30ish)
    I flat
    Turn 5d
    He bet, i call
    Riv 5h
He 20, i tank a little, would he do that with KXhh, small A making 2 pairs?
I ended up calling, he showed A4o with 4h, i win

Left not long after that, out for 267

Played another session last sunday, almot 6 hours. In for 230, table just openend, we’re 8handed.

Table was good and fun. Started smoothly, stayed around even, maybe my lowest point was -25

    Then first significant pot :

Utg opens to 4 (lol) a few calls, I call in LP with 76dd, BB 3bets to 8, utg folds (re-lol), few calls, I call.

    Flop 345d (pot 35-40)
SB leads 21 (vpip 97% sticky post)
    BB shaky hands calls
Folded to me, I make it 85, everybody folded. I thought that was maybe a bit too much, but on the other hand, pretty sure shaky hand’s BB would call his overpairs and even A5 type of hands. Oh well

Then, I once opened with QTdd

    Flop 4 way (36)
    T62d
Chk, I bet 10, call call call
    Turn (76)
    3d
Chk, I bet 50, folded around

Another nice pot when I setmined with 33’s

    Flop QT3 (pot 30ish)
O.Raiser (same vpip97 from the other hand) bets 20, a middle aged engineer calls, I made it 75.
Bettor folds, guy in between calls (leaving him a single red chip behind)
    Turn T
    He check/called my $5 bet (all-in)
I show my boat he shows T6
    Riv brick i win

Flop bettor told me he also would’ve made trips, wow had I just flat
But i like my raise, with QT on the flop, many draws are in their ranges, and/or action killers could come on the turn…

I think my peak point was +100 or so, got down to even, then up again.

Cashed out with a $45 win.
Not much, but a win’s a win, I’ll take it

Yup, lost half my tiny roll in my last 3 hours of play lol
(From 1k to 500), oh well, gonna have to inject money from my salary into my poker-roll…

Played that 1/3 session last week.
In for 300, out for 0

Won a hand with AK vs A8
Raise pre, bet flop, check turn bet riv (A) called by smaller ace.

    Then card dead

    Up till this hand.
    3-ish limps
    BTN 16
    SB 40
BB me with KK wanted to 4bet (should’ve, i learnt my lesson)
I flat, folded to SB who calls.
    Flop 752ss (96)
    Chk, i 50, he calls
    Turn J (196)
He shoves (200eff), i call, he showed JJ, nh

    And last night, 1/2
In for 200, out for 0

    Card dead for an hour.
    Won a $12 pot
    Punt 50
    Lost my remaining stack (lol).

    Utg limp
    I 10 w AJo (Jc)
    Mp calls, utg calls
    Flop (30) Kxx cc
Chk, i 13 (too small) both call.

    Turn (69)
    Xc
    Chk, i 30, mp 60, utg call, i fold

    Riv (219)
    Brick
MP show A6cc for the nuts

(Im ok with cbet, even tho a check would’ve been ok 3way with a player behind and without Ac, but i don’t really like my turn bet in retrospect)

    Dropped to $90
    Double straddled pot (1/2/5/10)
    Few limps (2-3)
I BB AKo, count my stack ($89) flat (i know i could’ve push).
    Straddler completes
Double straddler raises his option to 60, folded to me, I shove
    S fold
DS calls with 88 and holds, nh, gg

    Im out

Im starting to really look forward for that upswing, good run, lol

I went and play a tournament last night. A $75 deepstack.
Started well, then dropped back down.
Folded top2 in a spot where I should never have.

    Then here’s a hand :
    400/800/800 got 36k
2limps, HJ 2k, CO calls, I call otb with 87ss, BB calls, limpers fold

    Flop (10k)
    T9Xs
BB chk, HJ 5k, CO calls, I call, BB folds.

    Turn (25k)
    As
HJ 10k, CO folds, it’s on me, got 28-29k left….
    What dya do?
    Call for pot odds?
    Fold and keep 30ish bb?
    Shove with my double draw?
(I thought that last option was a little gamble, cause i don’t think I got any fold equity)

    I folded… (Maybe I could’ve called, with 3.5:1 (?))

All-in pf for 10bigs with QQ vs 76 vs 33.
    Runout 352K4
Busted in 38th over 71 players.
    Oh well.

Time for cash game. Seat open in 2/2 plo.
In for 200. We were 6handed, stacks were avg between 500-1k.
    Straddle, double/tripple straddle.
    Couldn’t find a hand really
Played an hour without going post-turn I think.
Lost $55, took my stack and went on a hold’em table.

+$30 in 10 min. Was starting to build a stack… Up untill that dream situation happened.

    Straddled pot (1/2/5)
    4 limps
Got AA in sb, bump it to 30,
Folded to a guy in MP who calls.
    Flop (80)
    Ah8h7c
    I take a second before cbetting 25,
    Villain snap shoves
    I snap call
    Runout : A789T
    He shows JT nh
Good thing he was short, i still got $76.

Played a little after that then left with $50.

I’m overdue for an upswing, lol

Went to play on last Thursday.
    1/2, in for 200
Never been down. Was between +30 and even for the most part of my 3 hour session.

    Till this hand.
MP opens to 7, CO and BTN called,
I wake up with AKo in the small blind
I bump it up to $30. Original raiser then thinks a little before shoving allin for 137. Co and Btn folded.

I felt it was a call.
Then started to think about the money. Im in a serious downswing (-700 in my last 3 sessions, starting the year with about 1k)… If i call and lose, I’ll be left with a $75 stack, and I don’t wanna book another loss.

On the other hand, this guy went allin 3 times in the last half hour. Pretty sure he can be shoving light in that spot. Sure he may have KK+, but I’m also flipping vs 99-QQ. He may even push AT+ here… Maybe even some small wheel suited aces. Not to mention even some KQ KJ QJ…

    I called.

He showed me a queen. I turn my hand face up. Board ran out 9 high and he mucked.

Cashed out 30-40 minutes later for 340

That pot felt really good. 1. For the win, sure, but 2. Cause I’ve been able to make my decision based on poker strat (ranges, equity, image, etc) instead of “protecting” my stack cause I’m on a tiny roll.

    Then I chopped a pot with AhJd vs A3ss on A85ddd 5 Q
    After I 3 barrelled.
    Then nothing much.

After a bit, i lost my profits with AQdd
    Raised pre, flop 3-4 ways.
    Flop QQ8d
    I bet, V x/c
    Turn 6d
    V chk I chk back
    River Jd
    V leads, I flat
And lose to 88, nh, glad I lost the minimum

Back to even, started to be card dead, totally, like at best, I saw Q6o utg2
Folded for an hour (maybe even 2?) 99% of my hands…

At last, i see a flop in a straddled pot with 75o
    Flop 653,
    A bet, a call, i call
    Turn 8
    Chk around
    Riv 7
Bet pot, tank fold, to me, i folded

Guy told the tank-folder he flopped an open-ender, and i believe him.

    I said 75, he said “i didn’t have 75, i had a 5”
I said “no i mean I had 75, but you, i think you had 54”
He smiled and said “well, i had something”

Cashed out after almost 5 hours for a $45 loss, really not so bad

I went to play last sunday. Wasn’t a good night for me.

    Lost AQss<AJdd
    I raised pf
    Cbet A high flop,
    Called V’s donk on turn
Folded to his river bet (runner runner diamonds)
I folded face up, he showed me the winner, nh

    I lost with a boat
Multi-limped, i overlimped my btn with 52s (should go either fold or raise i think). Anyway…
    Board 722T5 (runner runner clubs)
    I bet/bet/bet
V c/shoved river i called (started the hand about 165 eff)
    He showed 77, nh

    I never reload (can’t with a 3 buyin roll, lol) but i did here…

Then a little later, i had to fold rivered 2 pairs cause 4to a straight on board.

Got down to 100ish, and doubled up with A5o making nut flush, vs Khigh flush on K5xxx

Little later, mutliway limped, i overlimp 63s on my btn (again, should either fold or raise i guess).
    Flop 245r awesome!
Older lady bets, i raise she called.
    Turn 5, she donk (damn!)
    I call
River 3, she push, i fold

Table broke, was down to $75 on my second bullet, arrived on a new table, was back up at 205 in the following 30 minutes.

But I doubled a shorty in a limped pot with J8 vs his KJ on J high flop ($30 eff, not so bad)

In for 400, out for 160
So down 240 in 5 hours of play, had “free” food and beer during this time, so, it’s not sooo bad.

Every individual losing session doesn’t tilt me. What bugs me is the accumulation. Used to be a winning player, but I’m now forced to admit I’m losing πŸ™
Anyway, i must not lose focus that I’m a rec, and so my objective should only be having fun, and i still have fun playing, so, that’s good.

I just want to win so i can keep playing, cause when i’ll lose my whole roll, i won’t be able to play anymore, and that sucks… I make a comfortable income, but lotta stuff to pay, so, can’t out much money aside for poker from my job income… Don’t really want to be playing once a month…

Anyway, things are gonna turn around, im pretty sure, haha

    tournament #5, March 3rd.

I went to play last night. A $75 deepstack tourney, 30k starting stack, 20min blinds.

First 2-3 levels were very quiet, folded pretty much everything.
Maybe last level or two before the first break, i won a few pots.

First break i had 45k average was 40ish

Then again, a bunch of folds.
Till I won a couple of pots.

    One nice pot was :
    800/1600/1600
I open QJ in ep to 3200, 4 calls
    Flop AQx
    Checked around
    Turn X
    I bet 6200, one call
    River X
    I x/c villain’s 8500, and won vs JT

    Here’s a hand I’m not quite sure if i should’ve played otherwise.
    Called pf with 33
    Multiway flop of
    457
Checked around to the btn who shoved 15k into 15k
    Folded to me…
I hesitated between leading flop, or calling off here…
    Had 2:1, 6 outs, 24%…
    Folded
    She flashed 99, nh
(Would’ve been for a third of my stack)

    2nd break, got 69k avg 72

    New table.

    I open A7o to 4k (1/2/2)
    Bb 3bets to 7k
    Gotta call
Miss postflop and folded to his cbet.
I actually hit midpair, but didn’t feel to play for stacks… I gave him a range and I was close to flipping, guess i could’ve peal….

    Then, still 1k/2k/2k
A man opens to 4k im mp
    I 3bet AQdd to 15k
Folded around and take it down.

    One orbit later (1.5k/3k/3k)
    Same man opens to 7k
    I 3bet JJ to 20k
Folded to him who shoves for 26500
    I call
He shows AA and hold, nh

    I’m down to 28k
    I fold for an orbit
Actually called one minraise to setmine and missed.

So another orbit later or so, still 1.5/3/3
    Same man limps in hj
I shove AJhh in sb for my last 20k
    Bb calls for 4500 total
    Limper calls.
    Me AJ
    HJ J9
    BB J8
    Board : KQJ97
    Nh gg

    Out 41/123
